I know the topic of the plane crash was in a thread already I just wanted to start one specifically for Cory....

A little about the guy:

Biography:
Cory Fulton Lidle...Married Melanie Varela (1/7/97); one son, Christopher Taylor (9/18/00)...1990 graduate of South Hills High School (CA), where he was a teammate of Jason Giambi...Was All-State his senior year...His twin brother, Kevin, played minor league baseball, first as a catcher and then as a pitcher...Is a relative of Robert Fulton, inventor of the steamboat.

He was a Met, Devil Ray, A, Blue Jay, Phillie and Yankee.

What are the odds of one famous person hitting another?

How is wife found out is also sad. She and their son were on a commercial flight to LA, the plane landed at 8:30PM ET, she had no idea what happened. There was a priest waiting to meet them as they departed the plane to tell them.

I can't even comprehend that scenario

The strange thing about this is, the Cirrus plane he was flying has an emergency parachute built in that safely lowers the plane to the ground in an emergency. They obviously panicked and forgot about it. The other person in the plane was, by all reports, a flight instructor.

I just don't get it. This didn't have to happen.

or it may not have had time to deploy... they weren't that far off the ground when they hit the building.

Not all that high, apparently... last summer there was a car accident in the town next to me involving a Patriot (sorry I can't recall now which one) and Dave Wallace, the Red Sox (now former, but then current) pitching coach.

I also heard on the news that one of the Mets coaches had an apartment in the building ... I don't know if it was affected or not, but the building people were trying to locate him to verify his whereabouts, so I assume it was close to the impact area.

Manny Acta - he was on his way to Shea, and all of a sudden he got a barrage of phone calls asking him "are you alright." He had no clue until he got to the clubhouse and turned on the tv.

What happened to keeping the identity of the victim out of the media until the family is notified?!?
