Why is Sammy Hagar trying to be Jimmy Buffett?

what are you talking about? Sammy has as much credibility in the area as Jimmy does. Way more than Cheeseney.

and Sammy's tequila is a lot better :)

I bought the new Hagar and it really didn't make me think he was 'trying to be Buffett'.....just a slightly different version of Hagar. The new CD gets quite a bit of play in my iPod...

I like it too. Part of it might have been due to having seen him do tracks from the new album in concert this year; part of it is due to the tequila. Livin' on a Coastline and I Love This Bar are favourites (and the Cheesney-written song One Sip isn't bad either...)

even just matching the Silver M'ville vs. the Blanco Cabo, Sammy's folks turn out a much better tequila than Jimmy's.

I like "The Way We Live", too.....
Sammy's version of I Love This Bar is infinitely better than Toby Keith's, but then I may be prejudice because TK makes my skin crawl.....

Chesney wrote 'One Sip'??? I admit to being amazed.....that isn't a half bad song.....at least as done by Sammy.

I don't think he's trying to be Jimmy at all....his latest does seem to be a natural progression of his time on, and his love of, the coast of Mexico.

And as others have said....his tequila is MUCH better then the Margaritaville brand. (I don't think there is a comparison to be honest.)

Well impulse got the best of me again, so I went to Amazon and bought this...at least I got a big discount.

I'm using a new service that delivers into Haiti daily. We'll see how it work.

Thanks for the update and the impulse. :pirate:

I didn't know that liquid stuff with a Margaritaville label on it could be called tequila.

However, Sammy did his tequila first and did it right.

As far as Sammy trying to be Buffett, no he is not, he has always been a beach bum sort of guy. He just throws in a few songs about partying island style.

I think it's that they both got bitten by the island bug about the same time in life, and the musical experience progressed toward similar tastes. And whereas Jimmy has the Gulf, you could say that Sammy is more a Pacific surfer kinda guy. :)

it could be called tequila in the same way that Corona can be called beer.. :D

and the story of Sammy in search of a signature tequila for the Cantina in Cabo is pretty good. I think Jimmy's was more a, "hey, they know me for that 'Margaritaville' song, I need a tequila to get some of the cash off that craze... hmmm.. If I relabel bottles of Pepe Lopez or El Toro... add some food colouring..." kinda thing.

yep... one of the very few by him that I can say is good; I was surprised when I read the liner notes and found out who had done it.
