Not sure exactly what the song is about, but "Nobody Speaks to the Captain No More" is Jimmy's saddest and one of his best.

Sending The Old Man Home.....and, whoever mentioned 'Merry Christmas Alabama'...I would've put that one on the happy list. I'm still having a hard time getting Christmas Island out of the ol' car CD.

There are no sad Buffett songs they all put me in a good mood, if I had to pick one it would be --A Pirate Looks at Forty-- because that was his last song of the night in concert @ Columbus, OH, last year.

Lovely Cruise is sad. It makes me think that when he performs his final show that is what he will wrap everything up with, and it really is fitting. But I also thing that Ballads has a lot of sad songs, Lovely Cruise should be included on Ballads.

Ok, I forgot one...this may be a happy one depending on how you look at it. For me it's both. I Have Found Me a Home.

Survive is definently the tear jerker. Im surprised that it hasnt had more votes because Jimmy said in his box set book that he was just in one of those kinda sad moods and was ready to get home from touring when he wrote it.

I'm going to list five. A few of my favorites.
5. Nobody Speaks to the Captain No More
4. Death of an Unpopular Poet
3. She's Going Out Of My Mind
2. Everlasting Moon (because I had a dream very similar to this years before the song came out. Long story)

I can't believe no one has listed this one yet. Very sad song. The man dies alone!
1. Frenchman for the Night.

A beautifully haunting song (not necessarily sad) for me is "The Night I Painted the Sky." There's a line in that song that makes me cry everytime....."As I stand on the beach, I slowly surrender to the child in me who can't say 'goodbye.'" The first time I listened to that song after my mom passed away was very moving. That line described exactly what I felt.

10. Coast of Marseilles
9. California Promises
8. Sending the Old Man Home
7. Pacing The Cage
6. He Went To Paris
5. Biloxi
4. Everlasting Moon
3. Come Monday
2. When The Coast is Clear
1. Survive (Sad in a sense, but uplifting for everyday I hear it and have survived)

I have a sentimental spot in my heart for Stars Fell on Alabama as my son was conceived on a screen porch under the Alabama stars twenty-four years ago this past July. I never hear that song that I don't think of my wonderful son and that night with a house full of company and my hubby and I banished to the screen porch. What a little (?) wine will do.
