And sometimes...the magic just happens....
So, we all worked together to make BuffettFest a fun event for the troops in Iraq, and there were some $$s left over from the "great t-shirt sale" and your generous contributions. With your inputs and blessing, $4,815 was sent to Homes for Our Troops to help build an accessible home for a soldier severely wounded in Iraq.
We chose Russ Marek's project (Melbourne, FL) based on the proximity to many BuffettFest contributors (should they want to help out more) and his need. Well, it turns out Russ' project hadn't started when I'd asked if any recipients had even a passing interest in Buffett. So, I asked again and here's his dad's reply:
"Russ AND OUR WHOLE FAMILY ARE "LONGTIME" PARROTHEADS. Have just about every CD he put out and on our trips to the Florida Keys his music plays constantly."
He's one of us.
Good work, everyone.
Should anyone have an interest in following the progress on Russ' home or want to help out a very deserving ParrotHead even more (or other worthwhile projects), you'll find the info here: http://www.homesforourtroops.org/site/P ... GRussMarek

"That happened on September 16, 2005 as he rode in a tank near Baghdad."
That was the day before the 1st BuffettFest... I recall sombering reports from the war in those days before... I wonder if he had planned on attending?
Prayers and PHIN POWER to Russ and family, along with the deepest gratitude for their sacrifices.
Thanks for the info Alison, and great work, again!

You’re still grinning, we’re still winning, nothing left to say

Life should NOT be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in an attractive and well preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways - Pinot Noir in one hand - chocolate in the other - body thoroughly used up, totally worn out, and screaming "WOO HOO"

It couldn't have worked out better if you had planned it that way!Quiet and Shy wrote:He's one of us.
