"Here We Are" popped up on the MP3 shuffle today, and it hit me how much I identify with the "black sheep family outcast" line...
Not that the family has really disowned me or anything. Just me and dear wife are the only ones who have moved out of the home town, the only ones who haven't built a house on the family ground, only ones living more than 5 minutes from the family, etc. etc.
We just don't .... fit.... quite like everyone else (and that's not necessarily a bad thing!)
Anybody else?

Well, other than my husband and offspring....I don't really have family....consequently I have been fortunate enough to CREATE my own family.....I've handpicked a group of wonderful people who "get me" and like me in spite of it!!

Breathe in, breathe out, move on"
Just sat through three hours of ballet where my mother and sister sat and yapped to each other all the way through it - where I am like "BE QUIET!!" .....
Family things you find me away from the main group ...... I am also the only one living in the city - they all live out in the country .....

I am considered the freak of the family, not because of obsetion with Jimmy Buffett but because I am the only one in the family to show up to a gathering with a mowhawk, lol. plus theres also my ear piercing that are streached out to 3/4 of a inch and other piercings, tattoos and the fact that I am going to do a performace where I am going to be suspended in the air from hooks in my back, ouch and thats for fun, hahaha. yeah I am a strange parrothead and I love it.
We don't really have any black sheep, but my immediate family and my aunt's are like sheep and cows. They're proud rednecks, and we're, well, normal (at least normal for a bunch of PHs)
My ship she has a rudder, but I don’t know where to steer
We are the black sheep for many of the same reasons you've already stated. We moved out of state, moved to several states, and have settled far from the family home. Expanding our horizons has give us more tolerance and patience and appreciation for things we did not know grown up.

Same here. I have 2 sisters and a brother, and we used to tell my parents they had 3 black sheep and 1 one sheep. We all get along though-even with the white sheep!
After one or two false starts
I believe we found our stride
And the walls that won’t come down
We can decorate or climb or find some way to get around
Cause I’m still on your side
From the bottom of my heart
Very similary to you Kruisin. My siblings all live within 2 miles of my mother, with the exception of one who is in the next town. I live 500 miles south of them. We all get along, but some distance is a good thing too.
I'm only the black sheep 'caus I live my life differently than the rest. My brother was once the BS, but now he has been mainstreamed. I chose to move to paradise when I was 18 (32 years ago) the rest of them stayed in Detroit. They wonder when I'm moving "home" and are puzzled when I tell them I am. They can't understand how I could become this "beachbum" kinda guy which I'm really not. Just like 99% of parrotheads, engineer by day, parrothead on nights and weekends.
