How far have you moved from where you grew up?
I was replying to another thread and it made me think about where I live. I wonder...how many people live in or near the same town they grew up in and is all of your family also near by?
I grew up in Greenwich, Ct. My parents, brother and sister still live there and my other sister and I live in Stamford..one town over. My husband also grew up in Greenwich..and his sister lives in Stamford.
Anyone else lucky enough...or unlucky enough...to live in the same town as you grew up in?

I grew up in New Jersey and became an Army wife. I have lived in Texas, Germany, Alabama (LA), California, Georgia, Indiana, Virginia, New Jersey and then back to Virginia. Sixteen actual moves later, I hope to finally settle in South Carolina.
Life should NOT be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in an attractive and well preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways - Pinot Noir in one hand - chocolate in the other - body thoroughly used up, totally worn out, and screaming "WOO HOO"

how far
We went off to college and never came back. Missouri State U (Go BEARS!) was 2.5 hours from home for me and dear wife.
After that, we stayed near Springfield, MO for a couple of years, moved to within 45 minutes of "home" for a decade, and then moved to our current home - An hour and fifteen minutes from "home."
Good range to be in - love the family, but sometimes a little distance is ok.
Ever see the early episode of "Everybody Loves Raymond" where they have the map of the area and Ray describes the ranges in which family could "drop in", "visit" or "stay overnight"?

Wow, Carolina, you've moved more than me! I now live one state over from where I grew up.Carolinadreamin' wrote:I grew up in New Jersey and became an Army wife. Lived all my life until age 29 in the same town or nearby city in S.C. Lowcountry where I grew up. Since then, it's been: southern West Virginia, south Georgia, middle South Carolina, north Georgia, southern West Virginia again and south Ga again. Nine moves in 15 years.
Born in Philly, but lived there less than a year.
Oldest brother lives in France, second in Los Angeles, third just moved to Pa. from N.C., fourth in same hometown we grew up in in S.C. but he's feeling lonely (ret. Air Force, he used to live in Arkansas, St. Louis, Turkey and Germany), and fifth just moved from S.C. to Alaska! We're an adventurous crew.

I was born in Brooklyn and I've lived within about 30-35 miles of the old neighborhood my whole life. My sister lives in Meriden, CT (a little over 100 miles from me) and my brother is a little too close to LI, he lives in Florida.kitty wrote:I was replying to another thread and it made me think about where I live. Born in Chicago, raised in Evanston and Wilmette, live in Skokie--all within about 10 miles of each other. Only have one brother (actually a half brother) and he lives in both LA and San Francisco.

1007 miles from where I was born in ...moved 45 miles east for 30 years...
almost 2 yrs ago moved to the East Coast, Coastal Southeast Georgia...
except for my 2 precious g'sons (daugher and son, too) I'd never go back...my hometown is barely recognizable...
