Jimmy talks about Ed Bradley on 60 Minutes

Post by Jwaasted »

The full hour of 60 Minutes will be dedicated to the memory of correspondent Ed Bradley, who passed away on Thursday. The special memorial edition, in which close friends, his best work and the story of his remarkable life will be featured, will be broadcast this Sunday, Nov. 12, at 7 p.m. ET/PT.

Steve Kroft speaks to Bradley's closest friends, who share their rich experiences of him off-camera to reveal the kind, generous lover of life that he was for those who only knew him on camera. Among those speaking about the other Bradley, affectionately known as "Teddy," are close friends Jimmy Buffett, the musician, journalist Charlayne Hunter-Gault and Wynton Marsalis, the artistic director of Jazz at Lincoln Center.

I kinda thought something like this would be in the works. Good for 60 Minutes and especially Steve Croft. He was definately hit hard by Ed's death and I'd think it will be bittersweet and a bit comforting to interview Jimmy and some of Ed's other close friends. I'm sure it will be an excellent show, albeit tough to watch.

Looking forward to seeing the 60 Minute special about Ed Bradley.
And to see what Jimmy has to say about his friend.

I just finished watching it and wished I had taped it. Jimmy was on for much of the entire broadcast and appeared very sad  He actually cried at one point! It was so very poignant. I would love to have a tape of this also. Anyone?

This showed a side of Jimmy most of us have never seen. I guess he was just like most of us would be when a good friend dies. Very touching,

Thank you very much! I'm going to keep an eye out for this. Not just because of Jimmy but this was a wonderful tribute and showed a lot about Mr Bradley that I was unaware of.

I thought it was a great tribute. With all the musicians, including Jimmy. Very touching.

. .for all the " larger than life " images we have of Jimmy . . he is certainly one of the most " human " people in this world . .

. .he works hard . . plays hard. . .but grieves like a small child . .

60 Minutes did a marvelous job with the tough task of recognizing the wonderful colleague they lost...intro by Mike, Ed's 60 Minutes career by Morley, his life by Leslie, his friends by Steve, and a final farewell by Andy. Wynton Marsalis, what a poetic delight...and what a trumpet player. Kudos to Jimmy for having the courage to share treasured memories and thoughts of his friend with all of us.

In a perfect world, Jimmy would have more time to grieve for his friend in private before having to jump back on stage Tuesday. I'll be there to see him Thursday...but what a tough deal, even for the seasoned professional he is. (And if I drove the 1,000 miles and Jimmy said he couldn't go, I'd understand.)
