Paging Bob Roberts or anyone else from the Knoxville area

Post by Alan11 »

I am making my yearly trip to see my Vols play Thanksgiving weekend. And I have totally forgotten the name of a burger place I passed last year I want to eat at.

It is a mom and pop place with a location in knoxville and one near pigeon forge, they are famous for gigantic burgers and reasonable prices. I want to say they serve 1 and 2 pound burgers.

The location I remember passing was right before you get near the classic car museum going to PF. Any help would be appreicated.

PS If anyone has a parking pass for Kentucky please PM me I need one :)

Parking based on what I did this year at UT LSU. I parked about a mile away from the stadium on a road in front to the west side of tacobell. Parking meters aren't ticketed on the weekend, or so I was told, but it did work out for me, no ticket no paying 30 dollars to park, no hassel heading out west to I 40.

excellent thank you again. We are staying in the Papermill area off 40 before you get to west town mall.

Normally we take the back roads into the stadium and stay after the game for a while on the strip.

The plan for now is leave Black Friday morning around 5am, from Roanoke we can get to Knoxville in about 4 hrs if we don't get held up in Bristol. Go to Pigeon Forge first to get it out of the way and spend Friday night in Knoxville. Get to strip around 10am and head back to Roanoke after the game Sat night.

Hey man, sorry I'm just now seeing this. I've been MIA for a little bit while on the Vol football boards.

I'd say the place you are talking about is Fat Mo's. I've never eaten there, but I'd like to sometime. Its kinda like a fast-food place from what I can tell. Its in the old Burger King building. If I want a burger in that area, I usually go to Fudruckers a few miles down the road in Governer's Square. They're a chain, but they're very good.

I know this is a matter of opinion, but you won't find a better burger in the world than at Litton's. Litton's is less than a mile from my house and I eat there all the time. It is a family-owned restaraunt that started out as a meat market over 50 years ago. Anybody that comes to visit me in K-town goes there first. Its an awesome place with very reasonable prices for sit-down service. Any burger on the menu will be incredible and very filling! Desserts are also awesome, but you'll have to get one to go because you won't have room left in your gut. It is located on North Broadway on the North side of Knoxville. The area is commonly referred to as Fountain City. Get on Henley Street downtown (where the Convention Center is) and head straight out. Henley becomes Broadway and you can't miss Litton's on the right. If you're comming from Pigeon Forge, take the 640 bypass off of 40 West. Then exit 6 is Broadway. Turn right and you'll see it on the right about 2 1/2 miles up.

The Cumberland Grill is the name of the upstairs portion of the Copper Cellar. It is more casual and a little cheaper than downstairs. It is owned by the Connor Corporation which also owns Calhoun's, Chesapeakes, Cappaccino's, The Chop House, and Connor's. There is a Connor's and Chop House in the Five Oaks outlet in Pigeon Forge. All are great! On Sunday after 4, you can't take advantage of the "burger deal". Any burger on the menu with fries is only $3.99! They are great burgers and a steal at that price! I usually go for that once a week.

Prepare for crowds and traffic big time in Sevierville/Pigeon Forge on Friday. That is thier biggest shopping day of the year so be prepared to spend a good portion of the day.

Good luck finding parking for the game! I'm an usher, and we don't even get parking.

Thanks for the help. I think we will just skip PF this time and focus on knoxville.

Our Friday night is a toss up between the UT women playing Stanford in BBall or the Ice Bears playing Richmond in hockey. Not sure since both are the same price but leaning towards the hockey game. Anyone who has ever been to a game there at the coliseum how is it?

Litton's is on the agenda. We go to east town mall and Sam's first so that will be lunch for Friday. Of course then we will hit west town and do some shopping on that side of town.

What section will you be working on Sat at the game. We are in section R row 21. Let me know and I will be on the lookout for you.

IF it was me, I would love to see Pat and the team (ranked #5) play Stanford. Stanford was ranked #4, before losing by 3 points last week. It SHOULD be a great game.

Either choice for Friday night would be a good one. I love to go see the Ice Bears play. We go to a game about every couple of weeks after football season ends. Its pretty exciting. The Lady Vols are good to watch to, obviously. I seldom ever go to a game, but I usher all of the guys games so I try not to spend more than a night or two a week at the arena. Too bad the guys are not in town. Hopefully they will be playing Gonzaga or North Carolina for the NIT Preseason Championship Friday night. They've got to beat Butler tonight first. Guys games are very exciting now!

I work the opening at WW at the football games. It is on the west side upper deck just under the end of the press box. If you happen up there, give me a shout. Enjoy the game. Go Vols!

Sorry I just saw this today when I logged on. Everything was great. I thought for a while the outcome of the game wouldn't but the Vols hung on and won.

Pigeon Forge, I should have listened was awful. It took us over a hour to get to Tanger Outlet mall only to have a cop tell us the parking lot is full and to park somewhere else and walk. Traffic both ways was brutal so we hopped on 441 and took the scenic route to Knoxville. That also was our return route home because 40 was blocked every which way but loose after the game Sat.

Litton's was awesome. My wife got the homemade Chicken Salad Sandwich and of course I got the burger platter. Those homemade fries were terrific, that is a must stop on the next trip to Knoxville.

Hotel was in the hood. We didn't get the room in papermill we wanted so we ended up staying across the street from Chilowee (sp) Park. Never will make that mistake again. All night long people and kids kept running up and down the sidewalk banging on our door.

We actually found a good parking spot. Behind 20th and Cumberland near the hospital we found an empty lot for 10.00. We always walk the strip so it was convient before and after the game.

Spent too much money at the bookstore and at Penney's in West Town but hey I only go to Knoxville once a year now so it is ok for me to load up on Vol stuff right :)

Overall it was a great time, I just wish I would have gotten a game program because it had a DVD with it. I did get the free program if you call it that the newspaper gives out. Here are the pics I took at the game if anyone is interested.

My thanks to everyone who made suggestions and helped out. Shame I didn't make it up to your section you were ushering, I will have to do that next year for sure.

Glad you enjoyed your time in K-town. Thank God we pulled out a W! I was concerned there for a little bit. You couldn't have had better weather for a game, though. Sounds like you got a great parking spot but a crappy hotel. Are you talking about the hotel on Magnolia Avenue? :o My God, I only thought they rented by the hour to prostitutes and drug dealers. Matter of fact someone got shot and killed in the parking lot 2 nights ago, no joke. I don't know how on earth you ended up there. Next time, PM me and I will help you find a hotel. I'm glad you liked Litton's. Was it the best you had ever had? I love it, and like I said it is less than a mile from my house. Matter of fact, I'm eating there next Thursday with friends from work. I knew PF traffic would be awful, sorry about that. You went on like the worst day of the year. I enjoyed your pics. Looks like you had great seats! Is that your new Civic? We almost bought one just like that and ended up buying a new Accord on Labor Day. We love it, but I would have liked the "sportiness" of the Civic. That blue color is cool too! We got a similar color in the '07 Accord.

Here is the name of the hotel and address was this the one someone got shot at? Like I said earlier it was a crap hole. Normally we stay in west knoxville or papermill but since I had to book this last minute it was the cheapest I could find. Next time I will PM you first.

Americas Best Value Inn Knoxville-Chilhowee Park
3207 E MAGNOLIA AVENUE

I got the Civic in Feb, no complaints at all. My wife has a 2000 accord so it was a no brainer for me to get a Honda. I wanted Red or Black but I hated that darn Ivory/Beige interior so I ended up getting blue. My wife wants the new CRV that came out last month. We test drove one and though I am not a big SUV person it was a smooth ride. Once we decide to have a kid, she will trade her car in one. I test drove the accord but liked the looks and handling of the civic better.

Litton's was not #1 but a definite #2. Mike's Grill in Blacksburg across from Virginia Tech's campus will always be #1. Litton's burger came pretty close though.

Thanks about the pics, I am not good at taking them. The Vandy pics were on there too. But we won't discuss that game :)

Man, I was just in Blacksburg! My buddy just moved there and is attending the new medical school. He took me to some good places, but not Mike's. He must not know about it yet. I had a steak sandwich at Big Al's, a pizza at Backstreets, and some spinach-artichoke dip and a burrito at Cabo Fish Taco. CFT was awesome! I can't wait to go back and have that spinach dip again!
