RadioMargaritaville on your phone!!!!!

Post by spoonerhizolehound »

I recently purchased a smartphone from Tmobile- The Dash. It's made by HTC. They call it The Excalibur.
Tmobile insists that you have to pay their $29.99 for that phone's internet service. However, after a little tweaking and researching, I have found that you can get the internet with the $4.99 and $5.99 plan. Now the really cool part...

I tested it out by going to various websites. This phone has real web browsing. I was able to access BuffettNews and RadioMargaritaville to name a few. Since this phone comes with Windows Media Player 10, I was able to listen to RadioMargaritaville on my phone! How cool is that? I also found a freeware download to allow Sirius on the phone. I will try that next and let you know.
I am sure that there are other phones out there with real web browsing that will allow you to listen to RM. Just thought I'd share that with you all. Who says you cant take it with you when you go? :D

That's very funny considering I heard Garland Robinette announce today that he SMASHED his cell phone and he's never buying another one due to reading or talking with people that used to work for cell companies and how they view customers. I didn't catch the entire rant and he didn't go into any detail about it. I have SPRINT and they should change the name to SUCKS.

And what's even funnier is the timing of you getting a cell phone that lets you dig in on radiomarg when Jimmy's got a song about the crutch of cell phones on his new record.

Could that be considered irony in a twisted way? It would make sense on the land of ZOO TV.

UGH! Not Sprint!! I had them and hated them. I managed to get out of my contract a number of years without having to pay an early termination fee. I found alot of websites dedicated to Sprint horror stories. Even with this new phone, Tmobile is trying to deceive their customers. Every technician will tell you there is no way you will have internet without paying the $30 per month. I spoke to a tech today who kept pressing me to get rid of my $4.99 Tzones plan- insisting that I am just throwing money away on an internet plan that will not work in any way, shape or form.
After I got off the ohone with him, I checked BN, logged onto RM and listened to some Parrotthead music. I am looking for the Sirius software now. :pirate:

I didnt even think of the irony between my story and EOTP. Well if Jimmmy sees me on the phone, now he'll know why. :pirate:

Here's an even sicker irony - after Katrina, my SUCKS, I mean Sprint phone was the only phone of anyone I knew from metro NOLA area that worked, especially the shortmail. Isn't that just text messaging? It's actually more like an email. Other Sprinters had a lot of trouble. I was in Arkansas, Louisiana, Mississippi and Alabama right after Katrina and I could call to family and friends that were spread all over but they couldn't call me. And they were in perfectly good tower areas of the country and I was in Katrina Killed My Cell Tower land.

I still have not been able to figure that out.

I drive across the Pearl River (both branches) and it drops, as well as other areas of MS and AL. I drive across the Causeway to and from New Orleans and it drops in 2 places EVERY time.

The Sprinters even tried to tell me it's because my cell is old. What a crock. Yeah it's old compared to people that just buy a cell phone when a new colour comes out or a new button is featured.

SPRINT SUCKS.

Thats how I got out of the contract- they told me my phone was too old. Being it was there upgrades that made my phone archaic, I found my loophole. They wanted to give me money towards a new phone. I told them I do not want a new phone and this problem is on their end. They agreed and I was free...free at last. Type in your web browser...sprnit sucks and check out all of the sites that come up. :pirate:

Do you have a New Orleans number? Like the main area code, I mean?

The reason I ask- cell phone calls are routed from the circuit of area code or exchange of the phone through land lines to the tower closest to the phone. As an example, when anyone calls me, the call goes to an Indianapolis circuit, which then routes the calls through land lines to a tower in the Detroit area, where I actually live. So something happens to mess up the Indy phone circuits and I'm screwed, even though I'm 300 miles away almost all the time.

Katrina took out a good portion of that infastructure, and the calls to make sure everyone was ok overloaded a lot of remaining circuits too. So if you had a number that was based on another circuit, then you would be fine.

Careful there with that web browsing. Read your contract. In addition to the web access fee, they are probably charging you for connection time or bits. Internet on the cell phone is really cool though.

The $4.99 plan I have covers internet, email and is unlimited. There are no other charges. I used it for a long time with my other phones. It was great. I had no interest in switching phones. Then, I was waiting to go pay my bill and right before my eyes was this beauty. I fell in love with it..I digress. They have told me- swore to me that there was no way that my Tzones would work with this phone and wanted me to take it off of my plan- telling me I'm paying for nothing. All I did was reconfigure my settings and got it working. I suppose their blatant lies to the public could leave them open to a law suit. Hmmm...maybe I need to ask a lawyer about that.
In any event, my "Tzones that will never work with this phone" are working just fine and I am loving RadioMargaritaville on my phone. :pirate:

You can also listen through Sirius on your DASH, the software is available on many websites...... I believe there is also an XM version.....

T-Mobile users..... Only problem is when you are listening to internet streams (audio or video) your phone will not receive phone calls....... Some other providers and their phones may still receive calls......
Hello posters and lurkers....... want to get that out of the way.....

Actually, I was listening to RM the other day and a call came in. It shut down the RM..dont remember if I answered the call in time but the RM started again right after. It was pretty cool. :pirate:

That is certainly a bargain at $4.99. I wish my Sprint or Cingular plans had that option. BTW, I love my Sprint phone much clearer reception than the Cingular in most cases. Problem may be the phone, but it is easier to blame the carrier.

Careful there. Every major company is an easy target. A quick Google search showed the following:

sprint sucks ............ Results 1 - 10 of about 957,000
verizon sucks ............ Results 1 - 10 of about 968,000
t-mobile sucks ............ Results 1 - 10 of about 616,000
tmobile sucks ............ Results 1 - 10 of about 611,000
cingular sucks ............ Results 1 - 10 of about 741,000
and for good measure
buffett sucks ............ Results 1 - 10 of about 169,000 *

* of course a lot of these lashed out at Warren Buffett; also Jimmy's song "Math Suks" found several hits

My point is that it's easy to find people with problems with every service. Plus people who have never had any problems. I personally carried a Sprint phone for years and never had any problems. And at the time I worked for Verizon (not Verizon Wireless). Since I got no benefits from Verizon Wireless (I do now) I went with Sprint because at the time they had better phone choices for me. Now I carry a blackberry 8703e (love it) and I'm using Verizon Wireless.

It sure is. That's why the techs will tell you that you cant send pictures/multimedia messages, access the internet or your emails without paying the $30 beans. This "technician" swore up and down that I wouldnt be able to send multimedia messages just last night. I just sent a few out. Tmo invested alot into this wifi hotspot/Starbucks collaboration but that doesnt give them just cause to out and out lie about their services.

Shh dont tell JustDucky that Sprint treats you well. :pirate:

Absolutely right. I had Sprint and it was a horrorshow. Here we have two who sing its praises. I got Tmo after Sprint and have been very happy. I am sure the 611,000 others would argue my opinion. I do have to say, I am happy that my provider is the least hated- according to your posted search results. However, this "lie about the wifi service" is a little concerning.

No more cingular trauma!Downside-- you must purchase your phone. And phone only works inside service area unless you purchase roaming minutes
Indecision may or may not be my problem

I've had fewer problems with Cingular than Verizon, but finding a wireless carrier that isn't out to screw you is like trying to find an insurance company that isn't either.

Hmmmmmmmm

All of that is a lot to think about.

I understand a company not being perfect. What I don't understand is how they can say You're battery needs to be fully charged to get a good signal.

What about when the battery is low? What kind of lameass excuse is that? One to get me to buy a better phone? ALL batteries get low.

I need a solar powered cell phone that's hooked up with service through the moon.

Something tells me that Sprint is not in it, ha ha, for the long haul. They should change the name to Spite. Nextell to Notell. Alltell to Whotell. Verizon to Overcast. Etc......
