I've noticed that although I was not crazy about it when the "Hoot" soundtrack first came out, after hearing it twice live over the summer I really enjoy listening to it (both live and studio versions).

Anyone experience the same effect?

mmmmm, nope....it's just you.....
seriously, it's not really a song I love anyway.....but I don't care for Jimmy's cover of it at all.....Jimmy should not howl.....ever.
My grandkids howl much better so I like their version.

Gotta agree with you RR, those 3 songs give me plenty of time to take a pee break and get another beer.

I'm not too crazy about the version on the Hoot soundtrack, but I really don't mind hearing it live any more. So yes, I guess it HAS grown on me.
HOWEVER, if he wants to do a Warren Zevon cover, I think "Mr. Bad Example" is a tailor-made Jimmy Buffett song.
As for covers in general, I'd LOVE to hear him sing "Under the Boardwalk." (And he HAS said many times he's a big fan of the Drifters).

"Werewolves of London", that was Zevon's "Margaritaville". As a Zevon fan, if he rose from the grave, played the Stone Pony, and skipped "Werewolves" and played "Carmalita" instead, I would not be the least disappointed.

That's the point I was trying to make, that I like the studio version more because I've heard how it sounds WITH energy behind it (i.e., Bill Payne).

Speaking of Zevon covers, the tribute album that came out about the time of his death has an excellent cover of "WoL" by Adam Sandler (trust me, it's good) and "Lawyers, Guns, and Money" by the Wallflowers. I was impressed with those two covers, though I've not heard much from the rest of the album.
Totally agree about that Adam Sandler cover. He has the perfect voice to pull off that sing. As for the Zevon tribute album, "Enjoy Every Sandwich" it is well worth a listen. Additional great covers from Springsteen and Warren's son Jordan.
Well, friends and neighbors...

i haven't heard it on the Hoot soundtrack but i did hear jimmy do
it live. it was great and everyone around me was pleasantly surprised.
it was right around the 13th or some kind of reason like that. i liked
the original by zevon and still have the old vinyl. i even actually had
a drink at trader vic's in hawaii just because of the song. i was heading
home from duty in the pacific in 1978. :pirate: can't understand why
some people are so down on the song.
Who's got the rum?
