The Aspen Dilemma ... Feedback Appreciated
In the event I am able to track down a ticket to the Aspen show, I am debating about whether the show would be worth the effort/potential ramifications involved. Let me explain.
Having seen 30+ shows over the past 16 or so years, I am one of the millions who have longed to see Jimmy in a more intimate setting (ideally playing a setlist that features none of the "Yellow Album").
My dilemma involves the timing and location. I would need to depart immediately after the show and drive to the Denver airport to catch the first flight out back to Washington, DC. The worst possible scenario is a snowstorm that shuts down the airport and leaves me spending my BD (the 24th, believe it or not) and, potentially Christmas trying to get home. If that occurs, this might be the end of my Buffett concert-going days.
For those who attended last year's (or previous years) Aspen shows, was it worth it? Any weather-related calamities?

A snowstorm shutting down Denver's airport in December is a slim possibility. Even given Colorado's reputation for snow, the big blizzards only typically happen in Feb-March.
Your biggest worry would be getting back to Denver, IMO... It's much more likely to snow in the mountains, and I-70 can be a parking lot (or if it's too bad, simply closed).

I went last year. We didn't have any weather problems so all the driving went smooth. It's about 4-5 hours from Aspen to the Denver airport and you would be leaving close to midnight. That's a LONG drive lat at night, and if there is any weather problems, you could very easily be stuck in Colorado for the weekend.
If you can afford it, fly directly into Aspen or perhaps Grand Junction and you'll avoid driving over the mountain passes and through the canyon.
As for getting a non-yellow-album setlist, you probably won't find that in Aspen. Last year he played a pretty standard setlist with more than the usual number of gems tossed in. We did hear CIP, Fins, M'ville, Pencil Thin, etc. It's a wonderful and intimate experience, though, and you have the chance to be so close to Jimmy you can see his armpit sweat.

Exactly. It's not the airport that is likely to be the problem unless there is a freak "B" word. It's the roads from Aspen to Denver where you would be most delayed.SharkOnLand wrote:

I have a copy of last year's show. As BB mentioned, it was a lot of Yellow Album songs. If you want to go just to hear the rarities, save your money.iwasingump wrote:(ideally playing a setlist that features none of the "Yellow Album").

I finally figured out what the "B" word is!!! I wasn't sitting here thinking intently about it, so it's not a huge pressure off me or anything, but I had wondered.buffettbride wrote:Exactly. And since it was something that I mentioned that brought the "B" word out in Mal's post, I'm glad I now know. And no, that wasn't what I was thinking, that I decided not to say.
Non-yellow-album show? that would be cool, but not going to happen this time.
I was going to mention the Aspen and Grand Junction airports, but Mal already did.
iwasingump - you were in Gump? the movie or the restaurant? hey, isn't there a Bubba Gump Restaurant in Aspen?? - no, sorry, it's in Breckenridge.

Yes, but we also want iwasingump to tell us all about the Aspen show!!chippewa wrote:OK, we're going to need you to start a new thread with that story. I think a lot of BNers (like myself) would be quite interested in that tale...iwasingump wrote:I appreciate the feedback. Hippolyte, I was in the movie Forrest Gump, albeit as an extra. I was within five feet of Tom Hanks, though.

I can't imagine the dream of seeing JB in as intimate a setting as this Aspen show.
If I had the opportunity, I'd go in a HEARTBEAT!
I did see JB in Austin this year, an acoustic show that was a 1000 seat (old movie) theater and can't tell you how that show has tainted me forever.
If JB sold gift certificates that could be redeemed for concert tickets, that's all I'd be asking for for Christmas this year.

Exactly Dez. It makes every other show pale by comparison. There is nothing, ever, that will compare to the look Jimmy gave to me when I got to go on stage.
(Your ears won't ever be the same either, since he let me sing).
However, hubby and I discussed going this year at length and decided we wanted to use fun money on travelling to a show during the summer tour to see some of our BN/BW friends.
