COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) - Authorities say a man driving a float in the Anderson Christmas parade has been charged with drunk driving after he passed another float then sped down Main Street.
When officers caught up to 42-year-old David Allen Rodgers, he had an open container of alcohol in the truck he used to haul the children and adults on the float for a dance studio.
Witnesses say Rodgers was driving in line in Sunday's parade when he pulled out to pass a tractor in the float.
Police say Rodgers sped down Main Street and ran a red light, while a witness on the float called 911 on a cell phone.
Rodgers, whose child was on the float, faces more than three dozen charges, including DUI, kidnapping and assaulting an officer. He will have a bond hearing on the kidnapping charge later this week.

Kidnapping? Doubt that will stick. They could've jumped off the float.

Maybe wreckless endangerment or something...

Yeah, it's 'bout 20 minuted down the road. But Anderson is a place all its own. There's all kinds of nutty people down there.
I saw this on the news and it actually made me really mad. There were kids on the truck and float. It is so fortunate that no one was hurt.

This would confuse Swedes moving to the area, or thinking about it...

"sped"... they don't say that he was running NASCAR speed.. It was a freakin' float. The "kidnapping" charge is just gratuitous so the prosecutor can look like he has a pair for the press conference.

I'm not saying he has an excuse, but kidnapping is a little steep... Wreckless endangerment, DUI, plus you'd have to have
intent to kidnap... Idiocy does not equal intent. Although there may be felony child endangerment laws they could get him with.

Who cares how fast he was going. That's still wrong. There are NO excuses for what he did. What if you had a kid on that float? Would the speed matter then? I don't have any kids and this still pi$$es me off royaly to think that some jacka$$ would do such a stunt.
