Post by chitownpirate »

I've got a buddy who has a place near Lake Geneva....he claims that Jimmy has a place on the lake- he's heard it from several different people...I called bullsh@t on him- can anyone dispell this myth?

No he does not. I lived there for several years. Axl Rose used to own a place there, but Jimmy has not.

There is a woman named Jane Buffett that owns a house in Madison. Don't think it's Jimmy's Jane though. She owns it with Roger Buffett... It's on, of all places, "Landfall Drive" :-?

My guess is JB actually owns 4-6 (non-business) properties but rumors have him at a couple hundred....

I have some friends out there; I will do some research and get back to this topic. I don't think this to be true just because of the fact he never has stuck around here before during or after an Alpine show and LG is a matter of minutes away down HWY 12 from the venue.

Excellent point. Why would he use Chicago as base camp if had a place on Lake Geneva. Urban legend.

I figured any of us growing up and living in the area our whole lives would know....my buddy even said those who told him that Jimmy had a house there would land his sea plane on the lake- that would be cool as hell, but it sounds like complete BS- (I know there's an airfield in a neighboorhood off of 12, but you probable could even land on the lake- and where would be fly from?) I just told him I'd get some evidence from people who would know and prove the cheeseheads wrong!

well, he has been known to fly into the airport at East Troy.. it's better than riding the bus from Chicago.

I've seen seaplanes land and take off from neighboring Lake Como on occasion... never looked close enough to see if Jimmy was driving.

I do recall talk on BN around the 2004 show of Jimmy looking to buy property there... we were gonna pre-party there and caravan to the show. Maybe he read that and withdrew his offer! :wench: :D

Hey chitownpirate, I take offence to that cheesehead comment. After all we "cheeseheads" should be the ones complaining about you folk south of here. Remember Lake Geneva is still in Wisconsin the last time I looked but you could not tell traveling through any weekend out of the year. Anyways I still hold no ill will. Fins Up

PS The airfield off of 12 would by no means handle Jimmy's new private jet and there would be no way in hell he would fly his seaplane cross country to land on the lake.

RinglingRingling, you are correct about him flying into East Troy. He likes to mix things up though this last time to Alpine he flew into Sheboygan, about an hour north east of Alpine. Can't blame the guy for that just to keep the hunters and seekers guessing!

This rumor has been going around the LG area for awhile now. Here is how I believe it may have stared; someone else from this area flies a Grummen Albatross that looks very similar to Jimmy's (now unused) Albatross. We saw this plane fly over our house a few times and were sure "at that time" it was Jimmy. However, we still see the same plane fly over the house, and have even seen it land on the lake once, but now we know it isn't Jimmy since he isn't flying that particular aircraft any longer. Anyhow, small town + plane like Jimmy's making regular appearances = Jimmy must have a place here. I am a non-believer in this, never talked to anyone that has seen him anywhere in town, and it is a small town.
For the record, we live just a few minutes from the lake, just outside of Williams Bay.
I know I don't post often enough, so take my opinion with a grain of salt. 8)

Correct Margaritavillewis, I happen to be friends with the couple who own that airplane you are refering too. They are great people and own several outstanding aircraft but I can assure you that they are not Jimmy Buffett related. They may just be living in his neighborhood in Palm Beach though!

I say cheesehead in jest, FFL.....I'm actually living in Madison for the time-being, so you can say I'm a relocated FIB. You know that one, I'm sure.

I remember reading that Jimmy used to (maybe not now with the reduced schedule) set up a central "base of operations". Easier to come back to, rather than going all the way back east. Several years in a row he had a condo on Lake Shore Drive in Chicago. He would do Indy, Alpine Cin, Columbus etc. from there. I also heard about a place on Lake Erie one year and I heard he looked or actually leased (depending on who you talk to) a place on Lake G one year. I do not believe he has ever done anything other than lease and I don't know if he still does it.
