Who nose...

Yes, it's been one of those days. Running a bit late today, get downtown to take Tony to his preschool and realize I left the humidifier at home running. It's a new thing for use to use it, to help with his congestion, as he's a walking booger.

So, I drive home (25 minutes), turn off the humidifier, and head back downtown to work. The day pretty much went on as normal and hubby and I pick Tony up from preschool. During the drive home, he mentions he put a rock in his nose at school today. I asked him if it was still there, and he said yes. I asked if he showed his teacher, and he said yes (he's just shy of 3 years old and a very good talker and not a good fibber).

We pick up his sister from school and head home. Luckily, Mondays the Dr. office is open late, so we were able to get a 7pm appointment for rock removal. After waiting well past 7 for the Dr. to see him, she tries the scissors approach to trying to get it out. She manages to get it a little closer to the nose opening so he eventually was able to blow it out. The rock is about the size of an Altoid, only it's more round-shaped with pokey edges, one of the white shiney-ish kinds that looks like it belongs in a nose.

When asked why he did it. "Because it fit, Mommy." He knows better now. Rocks don't go in our body, they go in our pocket or stay on the playground. :D

Lucky me, we get to have a long talk with the preschool. We were planning on giving a 3 week notice as we are changing anyway (various factors), but I think it's ridiculous Tony told the teacher he had a rock in his nose, and she didn't even mention anything when I picked him up (and I was there for longer than usual at pickup, too).

Ugg. Oh well. Who "nose." At least we have a good nickname, "Rocky" for him.

Bad day for noses in your house, huh? :-?

Wait til he starts putting things in his ears. :o

A talk with the preschool is definitely in order...that is inexcusable. :-? Might be time to talk to the licensing board.

Oh yeah.

His sister was just a little older when she pulled a similar stunt. She was able to blow out the culprit in triage before we were admitted to the ($75) ER!

Um, yeah. We have a laundry list of things that we'll be sharing with the director, the day care company, and some of the parents as well. It's supposed to be this super-cool Montessori and it's really more like McDayCare and the joke's on us. We're paying twice as much as most day care centers and I'm apalled!

Mallory, you should have been called immediately as soon as Tony told he had a rock in his nose.
If that wasn't possible, you should have been told the minute you walked in the daycare door.

We were very thorough that rocks or other objects don't go anywhere inside our body. :o :o

Exactly. (They did call right away when another little boy smashed and broke his pinky finger last month). The kid didn't even cry...was just proud of the swelling and bruising. Shall I tell you how fun it is to keep a pinky of a preschooler immobilized for 3 weeks?

I've been around the block when it comes to child care. I've had great child care for much less. We're finishing out this week and then Grandma is taking him until January 2 when he starts his new preschool.

Make sure you cover beans, too- my niece stuck beans in both ears, forgot, and then got a earache after she had her hair washed a couple of times.

That sounds like a great plan :D

That's wild!

With Victoria, it was a "B" pendant that one of her Barbies was wearing. Right up the schnozz. With hubby, it was peas and corn.

I've never stuck anything up my nose... Well... nevermind.

The doctor is awesome, though. We've been going to the practice forever and the doc we saw tonight is mom of a boy my daughter's age and they went to preschool together (unfortunately, we don't live in that same area or that's the preschool where Tony would go).

He wouldn't even be going back at all, except there is a Christmas program on Thursday night that Tony has worked very hard on and he wants to sing songs with his class.

It's so sad 'cause today was his snack and show-and-tell day and he brought in his Little People nativity scene and told the story of baby Jeeebus. It was soooo sweet.

I remember the panic me and the wife went through when the first keet did that... The ER doc showed us how to plug the rockless nostril and open the mouth, almost like you're doing mouth-to-mouth, and blow in their mouth... rock came right out. Took 5 minutes, and over an hour wait in the waiting room...

Oh hey! Good to know! That woulda worked like a charm! Fortunately, docs office was only $25 and my bases are covered if it becomes an "issue" with day care.

no kidding....my nephew put an un-popped popcorn kernel in his ear....it was just far enough that you couldn't get it with tweezers or anything. So we took him to the hospital and the doc said, "oh he looks like a feisty one, I worked with kids for 18 years, I'm tired of fighting with them." He then told us that there was nothing we could do except wait 2 weeks for the Ear, Nose, Throat doctor to get back in town. Once I got home I called one of the nurses I used to work with and she told me to put sweet oil in his ear while he was alseep and let it work it's way out....I was able to get it out the next morning. He is now known as "popcorn head."

The bad thing is......One week later, mom gets a bill for $315 for that "visit."

speaking of sticking stuff up your nose.....when I was about 4 I put one of those springy things you find in some pens up my nose......a few hours later I told my mom I couldn't breathe, she looked up my nose and found it.....I forgot I had put it up there.

They took me to the hospital where they had to clamp my head down to the table and put me in this straight jacket contraption just to keep me still so they could get it out.

First, Mal, is Tony REALLY old enough for preschool??? I still think of him as your baby!!!

Mollie and I were looking in my old toys stored at my mom's. I found a Sesame Street chalk board and eraser.. We brought it home for her. She comes out of her room and says "I can't get it out"...she had torn the foam eraser in pieces and shoved one up her nostril. Okay, a 35 year old piece of foam...yeah, THAT'S CLEAN! We told her if she didn't "snuff" it out, we were headed to the hospital. She did enough for me to grab it with tweezers!

Silly kids....

He's his mama's baby, that's for sure, but he'll be 3 in just under 2 months. He started at 2 1/2.

When my brother was 2 or 3 he stuck a little fake pearl from a hair clip of mine up his nose. He didn't tell anyone for 6 days. Then he complained about his nose hurting. Somehow mom was able to get it with tweezers. It was soooo gross, black and slimy. YUCK!
