Because the gall in only used in the hocus pocus "make me a more virile man" medicine...which is 90% aspirin mixed with crushed up gallbladder. Same with Tiger penises, shark parts, rhino horns etc. Their only use is getting people to pay ridiculous amounts of money for a worthless "cure". It makes a non point. I hunt for meat, I kill a bear, I don't use the gall but my neighbor does, he makes an offerring to buy the gall, I instead give it to him. What do I care if he thinks the gall has medicinal purposes. No harm no foul. Am I perpetuating a myth? I see it as one less bear poached.

I hunt, neighbors says get me the gall of the bear. I don't need the meat but because I can I kill a bear for the gall but have it butchered and doante the meat the Salvation Army. I've done everything legally, bought a bear tag, hunted during season, did not take beyond the bag limit. I give him the gall but take nothing in return. . Nothing I say, nothing you say will changed whatever belief is operating in him/her about ingrained cultural beliefs and practices. One less bear poached.

I hunt and need the money my neighbor has offered for the gall. I've a tag, hunt during the season and do not take beyond the bag limit. I sell him the gall from a legally taken bear and the carcas left in the forest. Ethical concern? One less bear poached.

Yeah that too Bumper...and who deems it worthless? Have you tried it? Some people swear by chiropractors, I personally have only felt worse when i have been to one. Does that make them worthless? Well, not to people they work for. So maybe gall, animal penis and horn work for some people and as long as its done according to the law, then I can;t see the pronlem. Especially if the rest of the animal is used as well.

you surely are NOT suggesting that because they would sell the pelt of a tiger that it's ok to kill one just for the penis?

No, I didn't, I am suggesting that if you are going to use the whole animal, that also using the penis, horn, pelt, whatever is OK. Not to catch and kill stuff to use only the one part. And I can;'t believe its in the law to use only the one part...and if it is within the law to do that, then maybe people who don;t want it in the law should work to change it if they don't like it. I.E shark fins (cause this is what i have experience with) yes, you sell the fins, but you have to land the whole fish. Which is also sold. This disallows finning as you have to have the whole fish in order to sell the fins.

I hunted bear twice, and been hunted once, had a shot once and missed from a 100 yards on purpose, did not feel good about killing it but instintually pulled the trigger. Big ALaskan Black 6-6.5ft. Three years later in the middle of a backcast with my G Loomis flyrod on the Skenna River I just happened to look over my shoulder. There, 10ft away and closing distance was 500 lb black. No recourse, no weapon and no where to go but in the river. After the adrenalin worked its way through my shaking body I immediately thought of the bear I did not kill in Alaska.

Not sure about other states but in Alaska, you shoot and leave any part behind and your are caught by Alaskan officials your life as you knew it immediately will take turn for the worse.

I would have to do some research on the Tiger and Rhino thing. Still illegal if the taker uses the parts for his own interests?

if you get caught trying to bring something into the United States, any part of the tiger, there are very stiff penalties, as well as rhino horn, and 'phant ivory...gorilla, etc...

I don't have any idea what you are referring to unless it would be bear...and we all know that it is legal, within limits, to take bear. I'm not sure about the exporting of bear gall, but I do believe that is also illegal...

Where did I say it was legal to take tiger, according to law? if you reread it..it was bear..it is legal to take bear, according to law..

but it's illegal to export the gall..

It is illegal to export any part of the tiger to this country, as well as the other endangered animals that I have mentioned previously...

it's probably illegal to hunt tigers and rhinos in this country too... because zoo officials take a dim view of stalking, shooting, dressing out, and packing out their charges...
