Who else is REALLY annoyed by "beer elitists"? The "If you don't drink lagers and dark, foreign beers you can't possibly know anything about beer."

Really rubs me the wrong way. Same as with people that say if you don't like the Beatles or Incubus that you can't possibly know good music.

As I said, I'm not calling anyone out, it's just a general comment.
it's more like "you need to drink ales and dark beer..." lagers are just a way to spend money on overpriced water. :D

who is Incubus?
Either way, two of my five roommates this past fall were beer elitists and it got really, really obnoxious after a while. I got to the point where I just said "You know what, I'm working my butt off constantly and I just want a little refreshment, and I don't care if it has a rich, wheaty taste or a full texture; I just want something that tastes good TO ME and that'll give me a buzz." I feel the same way about wine enthusiasts and cigar enthusiasts: it may mean a lot to you, but not to everyone, so don't make them feel bad for not caring as much as you. That's my opinion anyway.

And Incubus is a crappy emo/punk band that a lot of young folks claim is the best band ever. "I swear their songs are about me", etc. They're actually in no way talented, their lyrics aren't in the slightest bit coherent, and all their songs sound the same. But if you run across a fan, they'll tell you that it's the most creative music around and if you don't like it, that means you don't know anything about good music. Total crap.
so does this mean that if I offer you a non-Swisher cigar and good tequila at a show tailgate, you're going to hate me? :)

I used to drink Budweiser exclusively (ok, in MT there weren't that many choices for beers once you got out of the "cities"). I still drink it when I go home unless I know the bar because it's easier to just order a Bud than something else. I just prefer drinking dark beers for the flavour. (though I will say that whether it comes to beer, wine, tequila, or cigars: if someone wants to tell me it's full of warm, roasted-nutty flavour with a hint of cedar and a dry, woody finish... they are just wasting my time because it is either "good" or "bad" and if it is the latter, then I have to ask, "do I feel cheated in spending what I did for it...)

To the first, I would enjoy that a great deal, seeing as I love good cigars and good tequila. I'd only be mad if I were to be enjoying my favorite brands of those items and you came out of nowhere to tell me I am uncivilized for not limiting my preferences to the most expensive brands. The clincher here, as you said, is that all that matters is "Good" and "Bad" (and each of those terms are still subjective person-to-person) and not all that elitist jargon.

As to the second, I drink Bud, as you said, because it's easy to get, it's pretty inexpensive, and it tastes smooth to me (meaning I can drink it as long as I'd like). I enjoy Rolling Rock, Bud Select, Michelob Ultra, and Heineken because of the light, smooth taste. I can't stand Guinness (makes me feel sick) or more than a handful of the types of Sam Adams. Guinness fans seem to be the most elitist types. "If you don't have to chew your beer, it's not really beer." Bull-crap.

Glad to see there's a new debate other than 'cover songs'.

I'm not really a beer snob but I do drink a lot of different beers. The whole rub on Bud, ha ha, is just that - Big Company and Jimmy was with, I guess, an independent beer company.

Before Katrina I was snobbish about beer but it was only about choice - my choice - of what to get vs. what was available or who had beer. Since Katrina I don't give a damn what it is as long as it's cold except when I'm at Rouses or Winn Dixie with a few choices to make about what to get.

When hanging out with my friends I drink whatever they drink. In Alabama it's Bud and South Paw Light. In Louisiana and Mississippi it's Abita, Corona and Bud.

In Michigan and Illinois it's local brews, mainly Bell's and Lienenkugel (sp?).

I buy Bud sometimes but I buy Abita almost all the time. I've never cared for nor like Incubus or Front 242 or Dave Matthews or Rush or Widespread Panic and lots of others I don't care to name, can't remember or what. I like JB, the Stones, Beatles, Who, AC/DC, The Cult, U2, Drive-By Truckers, Chuck Berry, Muddy Waters, Elmore James, Harry Belafonte, Morning Forty Federation, Bonarama and more. But I've never snobbed people out for liking anyone other than if they just never shut up about whoever.

So making fun of a beer is hilarious.

My favorite beer trivia:
Sam Adams went broke as a brewer!
I was so much older then, I'm younger than that now!

To me , it depends on my mood. After a hockey game, a light beer like a Bud is fine. Other times a heavier beer fits the mood. I do like specialty beers like a pumpkin ale near Thanksgiving or a Winter brew. After 6 beers or so, they all taste alike anyway.

well, having had that on a couple trips to Canada when I was a newly-minted "legal drinker", it certainly seemed like I got a lot more for my money than when I'd order a Bud in the states.. :D

Yeah, Old Stock was pretty popular with teenagers way back when I was one, precisely because you got more bang for your buck. My memories of that evil brew are not all good ones, hence the above Emoticon!

What a lot of them don't look at is there are people out there
(like me) who don't have the same taste as the rest..
I had a childhood accident that burned my tongue pretty bad..
(and the butter that got slapped on the burn might not have helped)
I drink Bud.. and Bud light and Coors Light..
I find that in hot weather I can drink a ton of it and not feel
loggy...

also I do enjoy Micro Brews.. just not to the point of paying
the $$$ on a constant basis..
and I was raised in the shadows of the cradle of Modern Micro brew..
Anchor Steam and Sierra Nevada were both very close..

I like Corona, but I'm glad to see sponsorship from an American company (unless I'm not paying attention and Anheuser-Busch is now owned by foreign investors...)

As far as I know, Anheuser-Busch also does a lot to support American troops. I like that.

And I'm looking foward to trying Landshark. [smilie=nod.gif]

I agree on the American company part!!!

As far as a good "Buffett-esque" beer, I'll take a Dos Equis draft as my beer of choice.

I would like to see JB stick with Corona, they've been together every year since like '85 and those Corona pre-parties are fantatsic.

I hope they can work it out, plus I have a lot of JB and Corona stuff like a framed summer tour/parrot head party headquarters picture on my wall!!

How about Prestige and Barry Manilow....uhg & yuck!

On a scale of 1 to 10 with "10" being the best, these 2 rate about a -20. If it's a hot and thirsty day though, I'll drink a prestige if nothing else is around (like water). However I can't think of a reason to listen to Barry! :pirate:
