Florida attorney disses Jimmy

Post by Buckice »

I'll try to be brief while I set the stage for you. Alex Lifeson, the guitarist from Rush, was arrested on New Year's Eve a few years ago for trying to intervene while his son was beaten and tasered (tased?) by police in Naples. As a result, he, too, was beaten and tasered, and thorown down a flight of stairs. He sufered a broken nose, and a few other injuries.

He has a civil suit against the cops and against the Ritz Carlton, where this all played out. He claims lost wages and other damages since the band could not tour while he recovered.

Having said that, here is a brief excerpt from the deposition:

Attorney: Were you unable to sing on stage as a result of your injuries?
Alex: Well, it's arguable that I am unable to sing, anyway, but...
(laughter in the court room)
Attorney: Well, neither can Jimmy Buffett, but look at him!

My first instinct, was, "Where did that come from?"

That is all. A long set up for little news, but, well, there we are.

Maybe the attorney was on the wrong end of a trademark infringment lawsuit and beaten handily by Jimmy's attorneys?

For one, the attorney doesn't know a thing about Rush or else he'd know Alex Lifeson is a guitarist, not a vocalist.

I'm thinking the lawyer may be a big Jimmy Buffett fan. It seems his point was that Jimmy Buffett has made it very big without being a great singer. You have to face it......Jimmy has not made it big because of his singing talent.

There are links to the first 150 pages (out of over 350) therein. I assume that more will follow. The Buffett reference is on page 49.

pretty funny really.

If you have heard the duet of Jimmy and Sinatra on mack the knife then you can really tell just how bad Jimmy's voice is in comparison to someone who can really hit the notes.

Speaking as someone who can "carry a tune" I have to admit that Jimmy has done a MUCH better job with his singing than earlier in his career.

Makes me wonder if the lawyer can even "carry a tune" .... (Most I know really can't ;) )

I think Jimmy would be the first to admit that he's not a "singer's singer", but his voice is perfect for what he does best - island escapism.
Some people never find it, some only pretend
But me, I just want to live happily ever after
Every now and then...
