Anyone have experience with... Auto Transport

Today's request for suggestions regarding this "learning trip" to LA is....

Does anyone have experience with shipping automobiles either on covered trucks or open trailers? The original plan was for me to help drive out there and fly back. As much as I would love to make a cross country trip, I'm not sure I could swing enough vacation days to make the trip twice. So now I'm considering either shipping the car out there or shipping it back or both.

I don't have any experience shipping, unfortunately, but I wonder if it might be cheaper to lease a car out there, short term?

For 2 months? Hmmm, quite possible. So far the best rate I've seen is $1200-1400.

the gas there and back may come close to that bill, never mind wear and tear on the car......

Well, I guess that means we're in for the long haul or renting a car. Thanks for the advice and links.

Now does anyone have suggestions on rental companies? The cheapest I found was through Rent4Less, but I have never heard of them.

that is why I thought to look them up for you..

Contact Avis about their mini-leases. Generally those work out to be a good deal. Another option is buy a junker for $1000.00, drive it until you leave and then leave it!
