Dice K didn't do that bad. The NESN announcers were saying, even without his best stuff, Dice K could have won on any other night. Hernandez was on fire last night and you could tell that he was frustrating the Sox hitters.MA_Buffett_Fan23 wrote:1 hit shut out for Seattle against the Sox.
Hernandez looked fantastic though.. wish Dice K was on his game..

Last night Felix Hernandez pitched one of the best games at Fenway since Mike Mussina's almost perfect game in 2001. Hernandez will be one of the best pitchers in baseball for many many years.
As soon as the Dice-K hype starts to dwindle and people start remembering he is a #3 starter, his line last night 7IP 3ER will look pretty damn good on any night when he is not opposed by Felix Hernandez.

I think he has a chance to be the second youngest pitcher to win the Cy Young. I would have picked him before the season to win that award, if it weren't for Johan Santana.BottleofRum wrote:Last night Felix Hernandez pitched one of the best games at Fenway since Mike Mussina's almost perfect game in 2001. Didn't he stay injury-free in the beginning of last season, and then got hurt later? It doesn't really matter to me though, Jr. is one of those players that I will always want to succeed!!!Bob Roberts wrote:Here's some real news............Griffey is not injured.Wino you know wrote:BREAKING NEWS!!!CaptainP wrote:Stop me if you've heard this one before, Braves fans....

A question for you.
During the Red Sox vs. Angels game, the Sox brought in Papelbon in the 8th when the score was 4 to 1 with Anderson and Guerro coming up with a man on. If he gets out of the inning and in the home half, the Sox score 6 runs and then they put Timlin to pitch the ninth and the Angels score nothing, would Papelbon get the save or does the save situation get waived because of the score difference ballooned?

Nobdody gets a save, assuming the Sox were leading 4-1 to start with. Only the finishing pitcher is eligible, and the lead was too big when Timlin entered.aeroparrot wrote:A question for you.

A save is credited to a pitcher who fulfills the following three conditions:
1. The pitcher is the last pitcher in a game won by his team;
2. The pitcher is not the winning pitcher (for instance, if a starting pitcher throws a complete game win or, alternatively, if the pitcher gets a blown save and then his team scores a winning run while he is the pitcher of record, sometimes known as a "vulture win");
3. The pitcher fulfills at least one of the following three conditions:
1. He comes into the game with a lead of no more than three runs and pitches for at least one full inning.
2. He comes into the game with the potential tying run either on base, at bat, or on deck.
3. He pitches "effectively" (usually for at least three innings) after entering the game with a lead. (This rule can be contentious, as it is subject to the judgment of the official scorer.)

If Papplebon finished the game last night he would have gotten the save.aeroparrot wrote:A question for you.

And the judgement of the official scorer is sometimes warped.chippewa wrote:

I've seen a Save given out in a game that ended 16-1.
