Yet somehow I don't think the man will be clipping coupons anytime soon.
I think the Rangers are now off the hook in paying some of his salary to the Yankees too right?

When he opted out and became a free agent the Rangers' obligation ended.

So would you trade Carl Crawford to the Cubs for Rich Hill and Carlos Marmol?

I think I would. Big rumors about this. That would add to a pitching staff already much better than the Yankees on paper. The Rays should do this.

Right.

They now have the resources to negotiate with and potentially sign free agent Joe Shlabotnik.

Marmol may be the only Cub "untouchable"

btw, baseball's east coast bias strikes again.....

Atlanta's Chipper Jones said he was "speechless" after learning the Mets' David Wright was selected as the National League's Gold Glove Award winner at third base in spite of a .954 fielding percentage and 21 errors. Aramis Ramirez could be thinking the same thing. The NL's top three third basemen, in fielding percentage, were San Francisco's Pedro Feliz (.973, 11 errors), Ramirez (.972, 10 errors) and Jones (.971, 9 errors).

"I wouldn't have been disappointed if someone like Feliz or Ramirez had won it," Jones told the Atlanta Journal-Constitution. "I'm a little confused by the final tally. That's a head-scratcher for me."

The Rays need pitching. They are deep with bats.

Hill would be a very good starter for them. Marmol could close and do it well. Giving up Crawford....tough. But I think I would!

Imagine how every First Baseman in the AL felt in 1999? Rafael Palmeiro won the Gold Glove, despite only playing 28 games in the field!

Boros is the best agent in baseball. I hate the guy, but he does his job well. Except this time.

I would in a heart beat. Can't have enough pitching. If the Rays made that deal they would have the second best staff on paper in the AL East behind the Sox. Could be a top 5 in the entire in American League in all seriousness.

Bull pen - not so much.

Although Marmol as the closer makes their pen much better

He is good but yea, a HUGE mistake it was for asking $350 million. I don't think teams would pay that much even if they were interested in A-Rod.

Believe it or not ... but the "world series" of Baseball is going on now ..

Looks like a lot over-40 pitchers will be coming back...

Greg Maddux has re-signed with the Padres
Curt Schilling has re-signed with the Red Sox
Randy Johnson still wants to pitch with the D-Backs
Orlando Hernandez will be back with the Mets
Tom Glavine looks like he might return to the Braves
Kenny Rogers will probably return to Tigers
Time Wakefield likely back with Red Sox

Jamie Moyer, Mike Timlin, Jose Mesa....futures are up in the air.

David Wells, Roger Clemens, Roberto Hernandez all appear to be done

Agreed (about 2 men, not the poet thing)....but it's a huge step forward for them.

Does anyone believe that anyone other than Jake Peavy has a shot at the Cy Young today?

If it is anything like any other world series/cup - they are every 4 years.

I see Aust having a tough one against Japan though ....

The aussie team - one of my club members is heavily involved with them :)
