I've seen this mentioned in random posts before, but I'm just curious: who, besides me, has listened to DSTC after reading the book and found it more enjoyable?
I thought it was silly until I read the book and now I can tolerate it. I'd still rather see a video/live performance instead, though.
Who's with me?

I recommend the book very highly. It's a pretty quick read, even at 394 pages, and it's enthralling, to say the least. I really wish someone would make a movie of it...*cough, Jimmy and Frank Marshall, cough*

I think the cd is some of Jimmy's best writing of the past 10 years or so. Very Caribbean sounding, and I love the way he tells the story musically while staying true to the book. For Coral Reefer fans, it's great to hear them featured both instrumentally and vocally.
I hope one day the stage show is revived. I really think it would be a hit out on the road.

I think it's intriguing stuff and think it'd be a great travelling show, but have you noticed how very much many, many of the songs sound like Jimmy's classics. To steal from "Party At the End of the World": I'm just gonna steal from myself. I think that's what Jimmy did with part of DSTC, maybe unknowingly.
Regardless, it's still a fun album, and even better once you read that incredible novel!

I did alot actually. It helped to know the songs but thought it was well done. My girlfriend at the time was/is a big Parrothead too so we didn't have to convince each other to go and when we were deciding where to go on Vacation, Atlantis probably won out because of the play. I'd see it again if it ever plays....

The intro to one song (Island Fever, I think it is?) sounds a lot like CILCIA to me, others have similarites too. But to me it sounds like a Jimmy Buffett album. To those who think he does too many covers, they should love DSTC.

Same here, I loved it the first time around and was so thrilled to find out that Buffett was going to do it, that I read it again while waiting on the release.

Read book AFTER listening to CD...DITTO SP'c comment - this is one of my all time fave CD's. Book is good too - lots more detail than CD and amazingly "timeless" but
the BEST is my DSTC poster from wyk (winoyouknow - aka Garry) and one of the first BNers I met in person. THANKS GARRY!!! You ARE the best!!!

My wife caught a t-shirt from dstc. It was pink. It is my least favorite CD by Jimmy. I just didn't like it too much.

I was just passing through and I have to say that after reading the book I really liked the cd a lot more. However even before I read the book some of the songs were enjoyable also.
Wish it would have made it to New Jersey or New York.
Oh well thats my opinion and I'm stickin to it

Believe it or not (look at my BN name) I liked the music right off. It's certainly not deep and extremely meaningful, but I like it.
I haven't finished the book yet, so I voted NO, because with as much of the book that I've read I still like the CD just as much. It didn't make it any worse for me, that's for sure.
