No problem with Dreamgirls snub.
It's a well-trodden story with a few interesting characters, ones NOT named Beyoncé or Jamie Foxx.
I thought it was great to see ol Marky Mark Wahlberg get a Supporting nod.
He stole every scene he was in.
..and I was stoked to see Pan's Labyrinth get 6 nominations.
I just saw it, and was blown away... very intense.
Calling it an "adult's fairy tale" is just pandering to an American audience
who loves LOTR and Harry Potter. This film was much, much more than that,
and I really hope it gets the full attention it deserves.

Tonight's the night for Oscar
Anyone gonna watch??.... c'mon, I know some of you, besides the good Capn', will be checkin' it out!
Any guesses on best picture?
I'm going out on a limb, and picking an upset win with Little Miss Sunshine
and Supporting actor to Alan Arkin.
It was a great film that is really gaining momentum now that it's out on DVD
and everybody's getting to see it.

(It's HOLLYWOOD, remember)?
the real question is if Al doesn't win will he demand a re-count?
j/k - I'm pulling for the guy from Washington to win that one.
Well...(said in my best Bubba voice) I've been on sabbatical.

I'm sad that Peggy and I won't be going to our usual black-tie Oscar's party this year.
But I'll still vote for the winners:
My picks (this year is a weak class of nominees compared to recent years):
Best Picture: Little Miss Sunshine
Best Director: Martin Scorcese
Best Actor: Forrest Whitaker
Best Actress: Helen Mirren
Best Supporting Actor: Alan Arkin
Best Supporting Actress: Jennifer Hudson
Original Screenplay: Little Miss Sunshine
Adapted Screenplay: Departed
Song: "Listen"

It would be.ejr wrote:I'll be watching. Seems like the one category that is really "up for grabs" is Best Picture.
And, from everything I have heard, Al Gore's win would be well deserved.
An Inconvenient Truth is an easily watchable film that has true warmth while it educates.
I had a different perspective of both the changing climate conditions AND Al Gore after watching this.
Here's another prediction...
Watch how quickly, after the Oscars, this documentary makes its way onto television
and into classrooms. actually, it has already started.
It's not about a political opinion here... but a scientific one.
One that people should really listen to...

It is available on my PPV and I just have to get around to taping it and watching it.Lightning Bolt wrote:It would be.ejr wrote:I'll be watching. Seems like the one category that is really "up for grabs" is Best Picture.

I saw it earlier this year in my Environmental Science class, and I know they also showed it in a Marine Bio class so yeah, I'm, sure it has already made it's way through the classroom.Lightning Bolt wrote:It would be.ejr wrote:I'll be watching. Sometimes more than others,
we see who and what and where we are,

Tonight I just need my guitar

It's AL GORE, and it's HOLLYWOOD.
There is no way he WILL NOT "win" that Oscar. The rest of the nominees would be wasting their time by even showing up.
I'm so sure he's going to get the oscar, I've made a bet in another thread that I'd shave my head if he didn't.
I'll be watching some REAL educational TV-Mail Call w/Gunny Sgt. Lee Ermey.

Garry-- I understand that it is Gore, and it is Hollywood, but will you accept the possibility that the film might actually deserve to win the award?Wino you know wrote:It's AL GORE, and it's HOLLYWOOD.

This is true. Just because a person might not agree with the content of the film doesn't change the fact a film is good.ejr wrote:Garry-- I understand that it is Gore, and it is Hollywood, but will you accept the possibility that the film might actually deserve to win the award?Wino you know wrote:It's AL GORE, and it's HOLLYWOOD.

I want SO MUCH to say no, because in my heart I wouldn't think so, but, to be honest, I've not seen any of the others either, so I couldn't offer an opinion as to which one was better than which. (Do I sound like a politician or WHAT)?
But for ME to say yes, the film about the global warming hoax is the best picture (among the nominees) would not speak very highly of the others.
WHO KNOWS! If I had the time (and the patience) to watch ALL of them, maybe I WOULD say it's the best. (Of the nominees).
But, I'll stick with my plan A, and just watch Mail Call tonight.
(There's just something about Marines killing people and breaking things that makes me feel warm & fuzzy all over).
XOXOXO
