And shouldn't the core of Van Halen include Michael Anthony? I can't believe they gave him the boot just because he and Hagar played some shows together last year. I might go see this show just because I like David Lee Roth...but you can't deny what a bunch of jerks these guys are.ragtopW wrote:Oh GreatDTinPA wrote:

They've been my favorite band since I was 12, and Eddie my favorite musician, but you're right. I'll go, I have a lot of mixed feelings. Hearing the early material live will be great, but Dave's voice has really been shot since 1982.
And I'm sureWolfie can really play, but Michael Anthony's vocals have always been a huge part of their sound.

No kidding...I'm hoping that they hit Massachusetts in the first week of the tour. If not, it'll be a big risk buying tickets for the middle or end of this tour. How many shows will they get through before we start hearing about problems between these guys?
According to Hagar, the 2004 tour ended on a real bad note. He wasn't sure if they were gonna make it through the last few nights together on stage without a blowout.

Asslick brothers kicked Michael Anthony out of Van Halen before the Sammy Hagar summer tour ever kicked off.

Van Halen Reunion Tour - 3 out of 4 Doesn't Cut It
I for one am extremly excited about this show. I haven't been keeping up with Roth's music since the late 80's, but there hasn't been much has there?
I had the pleasure of becoming a Van Halen fan from the release of their first album back in late 1977. In fact, I saw every tour they ever gave in Atlanta, Georgia up until David Lee left the band in 1984. While I am a huge Hagar fan I feel that the Van Halen experience became much different after Diamond Dave was booted. Not bad by any means, just different, and I for one always preferred the original lineup.
Which brings us to this tour. Sigh...Alas..there is NO MICHAEL ANTHONY. What the hell is up with that? That is like taking John Paul Jones away from Led Zeppelin. It is no reunion tour by any means without everyone there and it just won't fly in my book. While I am sure the show will rock, and I will definitley attend, in my opinion it is still going to be like a 3 legged dog. Presuming that Roth pulls his wait.

As I understand it it's going to be an amphitheater tour, so you assume 20,000 for a sell-out. $850,000/20,000 people = $40+ for a sold out show to break even on the guarantee. I'm betting lawn tickets will be $70-80, upper level seats will be $85-100, lower level will be around $115-120.LIPH wrote:There's an article in this morning's Wall Street Journal about old bands getting back together. It mentioned Van Halen and said their guarantee is $850,000/show. I wonder how expensive the tickets will be.
Anybody remember what the 2004 arena prices were?
