I'm thinking of treating my self to a new monitor, My 8-9 yo CRT probably needs to go and as I understand it, LCDs are easier on the eyes. What specs do I look for? What does the 5ms, and 8 ms numbers mean?

Thanks!

im not sure on the ms number but in my research and IMO dont put money into built in speakers and get the biggest you have space for. Also get one that is HD ready.

I have a gateway 19 inch and am happy with it.

Get a HDTV that will take PC inputs! That way you have a Monitor that you can watch TV on too! There isn't that big of a difference in price!

We have had a LCD monitor for almost 4 years and they are great! They do seem to be easier on the eyes.

Remember that an LCD viewing area is larger then a CRT, so a 15" LCD gives you the viewing area of a 17" CRT. I personally would go for a 19" or 20", but when you get into those size price points , you can get a TV that will also, be your monitor!

The 20 and 22 inch ones are over 300.00 and you can get a LCD HDTV for a little more.

Also, the new movement is the 16:9 aspect format. If you want that the I would just get the TV and input the PC.

It is great a whole lot less scrolling right and left!

Good Luck!

I believe the ms has to do with how quickly the pixels refresh in miliseconds. The quicker the better.
