OK so I am in the produce aisle today
and I have a bag open for some green onions..
I see this woman behind me and she is on the phone
so I hand her the bag (already open) and smile
she Snatches it out of my hand and just stares..(no thank you was forthcoming)
She
then says into the phone..
" This guy just handed me a produce bag already open
He is kind of scruffy I wonder what
HE wants.."
I just walked off. No comment..

Sadly, Wayne....for the most part...yes, they are gone.
Unless they were taught them by their parents, I was appalled at some of the things my daughters friends said, and did....
I was just at Target...and they only had one line open...and like 14 people in line...(really!)
So when they finally opened 2 more lines....?
ALL the people in the very back RAN to the new lines...while I stood there telling the ones in front of me to go ahead to the shorter ones....
Sad, isn't it.
and you are soooooooooo
not scruffy!!!!!!
Great, now I have to go to Idaho....

I would have turned and said "for you and your phone to get out of my space"
I was at McDonalds the other day with my nephew and was at a line that was feeding two cash registers. I got to be the next person and this girl behind me asked what line I was in - I said this one that feeds in to two.
She said "Well, it is NOW TWO LINES - PICK WHICH ONE YOU ARE IN" ...
so I ignored her rudeness and being of a larger size - I stood my ground ... she muscled her way past me and stood beside me to go in her own line. She is standing beside me mouthing obsenities about me under her breath - I just ignored her - I was tempted to say she must live a stressed life if this stresses her out - but I had my nephew with me and thought better of seeing him lower myself to her standards.
Anyway - she got to the register just ahead of me - I was only a few seconds behind - but got a faster girl so was finished first

I'm from NY, you're asking the wrong person about manners.

The answer to that question seems to be a big YES!!!!!
I was at the grocery store today, it was crowded, I pulled my cart way over to the side so some guy could pass and get on with it......he said nothing to me, so......as he got next to me I said You're Welcome!!!!
He looked at me like this

, I

and raised my eyebrows at him.
I've had it with mannerless people, it's part of the reason I don't go to the mall anymore, the kids walk 3 and 4 abreast of each other, and don't seperate to let anyone pass them, it's like you're invisible

DON'T GET ME STARTED.
oops - you already did
What in the heck happened to people pulling over for funerals?????
I can see not doing it on a 6 lane road - maybe. What I'm talking here are 2 and 4 lane roads and not major roadways.
Yesterday when we were in a funeral procession the motorcycle escorts had to literally ride down the road signaling for people to pull over. It's not like we were in the hearse or even family car - we were about midway in the procession.
If you're driving down a 2 or 4 lane road and you see a hearse followed by a line of cars with lights and flashers over PULL YOUR BUTT OVER AS A SIGN OF RESPECT.

Don't start me on that one..............I have had to roll down my window and start screaming and yelling at people while I'm in the funeral procession, my mother hides her head,(She's Miss Manners) my father encourages me, and this has been in 2 different states

gotta love the quote from Kathy Bates (Evelyn Couch), Fried Green Tomatoes....when she was rudely cut her off in the parking lot...
face it girls, I'm older and I have more insurance....
if anything, Wayne, it's the longer hair...I used to get that when I went somewhere with my son, his was in a pony tail...
some people are still put off by long, or longer, hair...
go figure...

it's not just funerals...
try ambulances...the two times I've ridden in one...in the front seat...some people DO NOT yield to emergency vehicles.
if there's an escort, they might ticket them, but the drivers have more immediate concerns...
and they told me it happens ...all the time..

are manners a thing of the past??
Not in my house.
Y'all come visit... any time.
I occasionally get a strange look when I offer unexpected courtesy, but a smile and a wave
usually smooth the waters. If that doesn't work I figure they are from New York.

you are so right about that as well - a ride in an ambulance in Dallas during rush hour is an adventure!!!

yes...and no
I've had a couple of experiences lately where people have invited me to go ahead of them in line at Jo-Ann Fabrics. I had only one thing and these ladies must have been making quilts cuz they had tons of fabric.

I have invited people to go ahead of me at the craft store where I tend to buy tons of stuff.
One bad experience I had a while back. I was buying a heavy storage cabinet at Target. It was in pieces so it fit on the bottom of the cart.
The clerk offered no help as I struggled to get it on the counter. Then he let me struggle it back on the cart. Then as I was heading across the parking lot it slid off the cart. Several healthy young folks walked right by me as I was struggling to lift it back onto the cart. Finally a lady who had to be 70 stopped to help me
