The Recording Academy has confirmed that The Police will reunite for a performance at the Grammy Awards next month. The trio will reportedly open the CBS broadcast at Staples Center on February 11,
Rumors had been swirling for weeks, so the announcement didn't come as a surprise. However, fans are still waiting for news of a summer tour. Some quarters say Sting, Andy Summers and Stewart Copeland will announce their tour plans during the Grammys, while others say it will take a few more weeks for the plans to be finalized.
The band members haven't been quiet about a reunion celebrating the 30th anniversary of The Police; they just haven't been specific about any details until today.
The group split up in 1984 after seven years and an impressive catalog of hit singles and albums, plus five Grammy awards.

really what's the big deal? Sting has the voice right.
Can't anybody back him up or did the other members of the Police sing much?

Sting has been doing more and more Police in his solo sets in recent years. I guess the big deal is, this is actually the Police. They also haven't undertaken a huge tour since Synchronicity back in the 80s.
