Static...

Post by rednekkPH »

What's the trick to getting rid of static electricity in your house? Our house is getting terrible, we can't move without gettng shocked, and the poor dogs are being tortured. It seems to be getting worse every day.

Any solutions?

I know what you mean! A humidifier may help, since the dry air really makes things "static-y". Poor puppies! :o

Hmmm...we do have a wood stove that pretty much burns constantly - I never thought about that being a cause. I'll hafta toss a kettle of water on it and see if that helps any. Thanks.

I think it's dryness. Try having a wee bit more humidity.
If you want an experience, go to a Jimmy Buffett concert.

Experience is something you don't get until just after you need it.

They do make heavy iron pots that you can fill with water and put it on top of the stove, Frank. We have little or no humidity here, so we know all about that. ;) They do make smaller electric, portable humidifiers that you can place in a couple rooms and that might help. You can also try spraying Static Guard on the carpets in the high traffic areas, it didn't stain our carpet when we did. :) Good luck!

Definately the dry air...a bit of humidity will work wonders on the static.

My problem is after re-caulking all the windows a couple years back they are now so air-tight they collect humidity and frost up...so I have to turn the humidifier down to keep the window sills from getting wet....  :-?

Can't you just attach some of those rubber strips to the bumper?

Getting the relative humidity above 60% using the methods mentioned above will work or you can do what we do at my company when it gets dry and there is a lot of static.

Spray a mixture of one teaspoon of liquid fabric-softener dissolved in a quart of water. This makes surfaces slightly conductive so the charge-separation cannot occur.

Good Luck!

More advice, if you are in a location where you are getting "zapped" on door knobs and the like by static electricity first touch the metal object with a coin or a key. The charge discharges through the key/coin and not through your fingertip so although there is still a spark, there is no pain. :D

Head bangers in leather
Sparks fly in the dead of the night
It all comes together
When they shoot out the lights
50,000 wats of power
And it's pushin' overload
The beast is ready to devour
All the metal they can hold
Reachin' overload
Start to explode

Chorus:
It's your one way ticket to midnight
Call it Heavy Metal
Higher than high, feelin' just right
Call it Heavy Metal
Desperation on a red line
Call it Heavy Metal noise

Tight pants and lipstick
She's riding on razor's edge
She holds her own against the boys
Yea, cuts through the crowd just like a wedge
Ohh, can you feel the static
So many contacts being made
We've got up front fanatics
Tearing down the barricade
To reach the stage
Can you feel the rage

[Chorus]

Get some of those dryer sheets and stuff them in your pants.

Or, just do the pot on the stove thing.

Take a garden hose, spray down the entire house, inside and out.

Then call your insurance agent, get a big settlement, and buy a NEW trailer...
