Nothing, they didn't know much about American Music other than the Soft Rock stations. I listened to hard rock and such and they never bothered seeing the lyrics.
If you want an experience, go to a Jimmy Buffett concert.

Experience is something you don't get until just after you need it.

Life is short, live long!!

my mother freaked about AC/DC due to the name, thought Mick Jagger was the devil, but he was as old as my father. Eww. Metallica.
I went through alot of odd music phases in hs/college. So you pick a category I listened to something they hated.

Nothing really - they weren't fond of Led Zeppelin, Jethro Tull, or any song that had "baby, baby" in it, they never stopped any of the 5 of us from listening to music, as long as it wasn't LOUD.

My father once told me that listening to Culture Club would "cause me to embrace deviant lifestyles"

I was really kinda young and had no clue what he meant.

I guess I was lucky... while they didn't necessarily like the music, they didn't ever stop (or try to stop) me from listening to it.

Heck, my mom would buy me 'explicit lyrics' CD's when I was too young to myself :)

My parents may not have liked all the music I listened to and even showed an interest in some of it (like Buffett for instance) but for the most part they were pretty open about it.

my parents do not like my love for 60's and 70's rock....

My dad doesnt like led zeppelin, hendrix, cream or any of those bands that i love.

They have a problem with alternative rock too....pretty much anything that is loud is either turned off or down...

My parents never complained about any of the music I listened to (because it was all GOOD- ), and, in fact, my mother would sometimes put some of my Beatles, Dave Clark 5, and Herman's Hermits albums on and actually ENJOY her children's music.
My father never cared one way or the other who I listened to, but both of my parents would scream like the dickens at me if they thought the music was too loud.

OH, and, by the way, today my 81-year old father loves Jimmy Buffett.
(He's the proud owner of the Havana Daydreamin', Barometer Soup, and License to Chill C.D.s.).
Did I raise him right, or what!
