I've always had top loader, but there are soooo many front loaders now.
Many, many years ago, I heard front loaders don't get the clothes as clean, but I'm sure that isn't the case??
Molly, you can fit tons more stuff in the front loaders and they don't tear up your clothes like the agitator models do. My old machine kept tearing my sheets. This one hasn't torn anything. The are very quiet and use lots less water. I think the soap rinses out better...though I don't know if that's true or not. The Maytag front loaders had a lot of problems with water staying inside and getting icky...they had some recalls...Hopefully they have fixed that problem.. I have the Sears Kenmore...which I think is manufactured by Whirlpool. I took over the laundry after I retired and I'm in love with the new washer  Of course if it ever breaks...the disappointment will be nasty...
Yes, Kenmore is a Whirlpool product. Whirlpool also recently bought Maytag.

We have the Duet front load washer and dryer. I love them. The clothes come out much cleaner than our Kenmore top load.

Kenmore rebadges both Whirlpool and Frigidaire appliances.

I'm afraid that I'm not much help since I've got a 19 year old Maytag that has had one service call and that was because my daughter had overloaded it and a sock got stuck between the drum and it's housing. According to the service guy the new washers are cheaper to run and use less water but the tubs are not as well made and will chip and rust very quickly.

We had the Duet washer for almost a year w/no problems. Very efficient & the clothes come out great. The old dryer finally died & we bought the matching dryer. It worked great for 3 weeks & broke. It's a gas dryer & the igniter went. We called service & told them the problem & it would be a week b/4 the service man could come. Service called yesterday & went thru diagnostics for a electric dryer. Told him, again, it was a gas dryer & he goes,"I guess I wasn't much help." No he wasn't. The service man shows up, does his tests and says it's the igniter. We know that. He also says they break a lot during shipping. So he knows there's a problem. Guess what ? No new igniter on the truck. After they were told 3 times about the problem & the past history of the part failing. Now they say it will be another week. If it wasn't under warranty, I'd fix it myself. Talk about frustrating. Other than that, it's a great dryer. Good luck w/yours

A couple of years ago, we went to the scratch and dent Sears store, got a Kenmore front loader with just bells, no whistles, and a dryer for the same price as the washer alone at the store in the mall. The flaws are on on the exterior and are minimal.

We stacked the two units, so it saves not only a lot of floor space in the garage, but wear and tear on my bad back. I sit on a stool to get clothes in and out of the washer and I don't have to bend over continuously to be able to fold them as I take them out of the dryer.

The clothes are rinsed much better because the water flows over them and out, instead of them swishing around in the rinse water (just think about rinsing your hair in the tub instead of under the shower) The first few loads of clothes I did actually had soap left in them from the old machine that showed up as soon as the water hit them in the new machine.
