Just got back. The trip was good (only two-hour drive for us.) . The weather was cold -- Coldest Buffett concert I've ever been, too, but the northerners who came may disagree.

The tailgating location was pitiful -- the United Way reserved at least half or two-thirds of the main parking lot for ... I don't know what. It was empty. So the tailgating, which itself was good, was limited to ONE long parking lane in the main parking lot. The rest of the tailgating was scattered around in little parking lots. Conched directed me and parrotthed by cellphone to where she & her hubby, Cuervo, gingerbreadman, magnus & mr moon and LIPH were congregated in a small parking lot two blocks from the venue. Most of us hiked over to find nolestaylor and Tidal Pool Explorer in the main lot, with about 30 other people(!). Then the eight of us hung out by our cars for awhile before the show began. It was phun, but kind of spread out. Met LOTS of phun people.

The concert was great! Just as good or better than any we've been to. We went to Tallahassee concert in Feb. 2001, and the sound seemed better this time. Jimmy said he won't wait six years to come back again.

The way he ran straight through into encores seemed unusual, or not encores, I'm not sure.

We like the city... We found a good spot for breakfast, The Village Inn. GREAT pancakes! Yum. Ran into parrotheads there and everywhere. Bought three of the four last six packs of Landshark Lager in the Publix. Two little blond-headed girls in the check-out line were wearing concert T-shirts and noticed Frank's Margaritaville sweatshirt. So we talked about the concert with their mom and how it was their first real concert. They were smiling and twirling around.

I know this is more than you wanted to hear, but one more thing!

We drive through Thomasville on our way there and back, and we knew Jimmy used to live there about 20 years ago. Six years ago we ate at J.B.'s Barbecue on 319 on the way home, where they've got his signed pictures on the wall. He had mentioned it during the concert, and I told the owner then that we heard about it from his concert the night before.

Well this time, he mentioned Thomasville three times during the concert and said he and Mac wrote Changing Channels there in Thomasville 19 years ago. So that was pretty cool for me since we live here in South Georgia, and I've always liked that song. 8)

Okay, that's it... someone else can add their thoughts! :D

I'm curious about the encores.... Did they not leave the stage at all? Even for Here We Are? Weird...

Sitting in the Tallahassee airport. They have free internet!

Pretty sure they all left after Margaritaville, but they started Here We Are before Jimmy got off the stage. When Jimmy came back, during Here We Are, he never left until the end.

It was just Mac and Jimmy for Changing Channels, so it took a little bit of time for everyone else to leave, and those two to get ready. Also, I recall that was at the time Jimmy was giving away his flip flops. I was thinking, no, please don't end it with Southern Cross!

That's the best of my recollection!

One of the mini-BN phlockings...

wannabejane, LIPH, Desdamona, Cuervo (I got my hug! several, actually  ) NOTE: Florida residents in long sleeves, Larry not so much.

I did get to meet carolinagirl in the arena, since she was only two rows behind our seats. :D
Also met dnw in the main lot. She not a very high-volume poster, so I've nicknamed her "does not write". But she does talk!
It was GREAT to meet you both!

It was also good to see lots of our "Stars" friends from Lower Alabama. And no, Todd, your name did not come up.

The show was great (as usual) and Changing Channels made it very special.

Wish I would have met ya, Des and wannabe!

FUN FUN FUN!

Good to meet Carolina Girl and hubby and Cuervo and to see some of the new posters in the CILCIA video and in the parking lot.

It was chilly in the parking lots, but the arena was comfy. Sound was great. I was right of the soundboard on the floor. Lots of space to walk through aisles and dance and the security folks were good.

Lots and lots of space in parking lot that they wouldn't let MOST folks in.

Not many port-o-potties and a lot of improvising in the lots!!

Long lines in the ladies rooms and missed two songs to take care of things and getting beer, but beat the intermission rush. Glad I stayed for the Jimmy video.

Gotta know the song they played during the SURF video of Jimmy. It was played during intermission.

Personal comment: It was so nice to watch the crowd's reaction to Here We Are as well as other stuff like FINS. Sitting on floor and seeing all the crowd around was really kinda cozy! Small crowed.

I liked the setlist a lot and I listen to EVERY show. So, it was pretty predictable, but had those very special moments you don't get when you only get to listen on RM.

Had a really good time hanging around with gbman, magnus and LIPH! So, so many concert stories to enjoy. :)

Tallahassee really was easy to drive around. Enjoyed a nice trip to McClay Gardens out on Thomasville Road. Thanks for the Thomasville info Carolina Girl.

I could go on and on... [smilie=battingeyes.gif] [smilie=battingeyes.gif]

Thanks to whomever made the excellent suggestion to go to Gordo's for Cubanos! Nice little place.

Drank my share of Landshark Lager.

Also enjoyed a restaurant called Torreya Grill. The Torreya is a tree that is endangered..
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Torreya_taxifolia

Also, really enjoyed the Desperation Samba "cultural to sleazy" and there was some dancing going on.

Didn't end up at a sleazy little bar today at all. Ended up at The Blue Parrot on St. George's Island and had a drink called a DREAMSICLE (cause y'all know why!!)

I may not get to LOTS and LOTS of shows to compare this one to, but THIS was special.

It was especially nice to have Sonny Landreth and Billy Payne join the Coral Reefers.

The spread out situation with the lots did keep most of us from getting face time, unfortunately.

And about that song, I've already had the question about who it was from a fellow attendee, and I
have no idea what the answer is. Anybody out there know?
(I was too busy enjoying watching the old guy catch that wave to pay a lot of attention.)

I had a blast this weekend in Tallahassee. Just reaffirmed my desire to move back. The only bad thing in my opinion was the lack of planning on behalf of the TLCCC. The parking lots were a mess today (stayed over and went to the basketball game this afternoon). I blame that on the fact that there were no trash cans in any of the lots. Also there was no bathrooms either.

It was good to meet gingerbreadman, LIPH, and Curevo. I might have met some others, sorry I am drawing a blank right now. Tailgating with my friends and cooking up some awesome gumbo was the setting for the near perfect weekend (FSU's loss in basketball today is the only thing that stopped it from being a perfect weekend).

As for the concert, I got lucky with my seats, I was 15 rows up parralell to the stage. And what an awesome show. I will hold Jimmy to his promise not to take another 5 years to get back to Tallahassee. :D

Conched, I am glad you liked Gordos, it is good food. It is owned by two Cubans who moved up to Tallahassee from Miami.

I hope to see some more of you at a future show.

Nole Pirate. Missed meeting you, or don't remember...I live in my own world.

BTW, did you know the name of the song played during the surf video.

Sorry about the loss today, but the whole weekend was still a WINNER! Great to be in Florida.

I don't think we got the chance to meet, but maybe next time.

According to the set list the name of the song was Getting the Picture. And what nice pictures they were. :D

The show was great. Not gonna complain when I see Jimmy live.  I did think it was NOT as slow paced as Thursday. A bit faster than slow!

The venue was good. It was very small, and I think that made the show even better. Even though we were on the floor in the back, right next to the sound and light boards, I still felt close. We did see Savannah there for the first few songs... she was probably only 30 feet away!

Tailgating was very dispersed, but it was dispersed over many small, scattered lots. Don't understand why they only filled only half the main lot... Well,.... actually I think I do. Something to do with politics probably.

I would say that most of the tailgaters were probably students from FSU.

Tallahassee was pretty easy to get around. Not a real big place. Someone told me if you can find Tennessee and Appalache Streets... well then you know how to get around! Definitely useful information!

What a great show, I will try to recap the day for everyone...

Stayed across the street at the Residence Inn (great location from venue)
Arrived at the civic center lot around 10:45am. People were setup by 9am. I agree about the parking, not sure why "half" the lot was closed. Also there were 4 port-o-potties by the main entrance and 1 port-o-pottie near our tailgate spot. Not enough bathrooms at all.

Tailgate was fun, the weather was a little chilly, but still a good time. Had a large group to tailgate with, did not meet any other BNer's ( I looked) But still a fun time by all. Learned how to play beer pong at the tailgate, and had a nice lady come by multiple times to "funnel" beer for her 39th birthday. Just all in all another fun tailgate met some nice folks in the lot...

Decided to head inside a little after 7pm. Tickets that I had purchased were 45 degrees to the side/behind of the stage. I had no idea that these were club level seats. We made it to our seats and were told that we needed a wrist band to enter club level. I told the attendant there is no way I have club level seats, she insisted that we did and we had to go to the club level bar and get a wrist band. Long story short we did a complete 180 to get to the club level bar. Once we had our bands, walked back to our seats. We had to enter thru a suite and then had our seats. Our seats were incredible, we had our own row, lots or room in front and behind us--and we were close!!! We were in our seats by 8:03pm
Was able to watch Jimmy come on the stage and also watched him hanging out during the encores!!!

I was able to sneak cameras in, so I hope that I got some good pics. Jimmy did face our way alot--I thought the sound was very good and Jimmy had great energy. Changing channels was a great closer, did not think I had ever heard it live, but did in 97 in nashville. All in all, it was a great show and a wonderful birthday for me. I had great friends and my wife attend this show with me. This show ranks as the best I have seen indoors to date. I liked the civic center and would go back. And to think I paid $49 each for such great seats.

It was all in all a great weekend, show and road trip. Thanks Jimmy for a great 35th!!!

Got home at 2 am this morning after a 14 drive back... Show was excellent, (first one at an indoor arena for me), was very good to see him in florida.. I met up with noles and carolinagirl and whom ever i met that day ( little too much rum :pirate: ) but it was a blast.. i agree they needed to do alittle more bathrooms and garbage can wise, and that united way holding half the main lot was just strange, but oh well, didnt hurt the show for me anyway, beautiful weather (in a chicago mans opinion) was great to get out of the cold for a few days, oh and were expected another 3 ta 6 inches by tomorrow .... *sigh... " i wanna go back..."

thank you ph's and thank you jimmy
So bless me father yes I have sinned

The Tallahassee concert was amazing, wonderful, great and fun! Only 1 little bad thing about the whole expericence--the rude solicitors in the parking lot! The M---- On W----- guys were rude!

Nice meeing LIPH, Des and Wannabejane. I wanted to meet more BN people, but I was with the little group that had the guy with the big, fake boobs on and he was constantly having to stop to have his picture made.

On the large screen during "Dixie Chicken," did anyone notice that Lulu was there?

Wonderful time!
