Roger Waters returns to North America this summer

Post by MonumentBeach »

I saw this tour last fall and as was discussed, it was unbelievable. He's bringing it back for another round this summer.

While it'll be awesome to see Roger again, I'm still holding out hope for a full-scale Floyd reunion!

Reunions do seem to be trendy now, don't they?

I read in USA Today something that Crowded House would be touring this summer.

Sometimes more than others,
we see who and what and where we are,
I'm just a one man band,
With my feet in the sand,
Tonight I just need my guitar

Everybody is entitled to their political belief.
BUT...
Performers should learn to keep THEIR politics out of their shows. People pay good money to see them perform and do their job, not hear about their political views. Rally's, Fundraisers, commercials... no problem to each their own.

Jimmy does a fine job of this.... Roger Waters does not, neither does Barbara and Im sure many more...

Sorry, I'm stepping down off of my soapbox.

That aside I have always liked Roger Waters.

Count me in for the Omaha show. Seeing all of Floyd is on my "list" before I die. Not sure if I'll ever get to cross that one off. Australian Floyd is pretty good though.

Having seen Floyd a couple of times, and being a huge fan for the last 20+ years, I have to say, in the Gilmour/Waters debate, I will ALWAYS prefer Gilmour, but Waters is a fabulous musician. He just came with an ego to match.

I've always said, Pink Floyd broke up over religious differences.

Roger Waters thought he was God.
David Gilmour and the others disagreed.

I hope performers, no matter their political affliation, continue to voice their beliefs at their concerts whenever and however they can.

You must like politics more then I do.

If I want politics I know how to find it.... So if I am paying for entertainment that is NOT billed as political I dont want the politics, no matter what their affiliation.

"Free" speech works both ways. You may have the right to express your desire that music concerts be free of any political views but the performers also have the right to express their political views. To have it any other way would be to surpress their right to express their political views. There's also this little thing called "folk" music that's been going on for quite some time now...

Folk music is not the same really... its already out there. You already know what you are getting before you buy a ticket to a show. Either you already like it or not.

Regardless... so what you are saying is you would be OK if you paid $$$ to go a play or a sporting event and at every other break you got to hear an athletes or actors political views, regardless if its local or national politics.

I can see your point if a concert was free. Or if its billed as a political event. Or even if its billed as a concert w/ political views, LOL

You know what your getting going in....

How about if you went to Disney World and every line you had to wait in had a Disney/ABC star talking about their politics or political announcements over the PA system in the parks. You would be OK w/ this? I dont think most people would.... thats why it doesn't happen.

This really isn't worth arguing over... You believe entertainers have a right to charge us to hear their political views, I personally feel its in bad taste to mix politics with work unless of course you are a politician.

This debate can be carried, very conveniently too, over to the "Dixie Chicks ...Free Speech" thread.

That would get it off the "Who's Anna Nicole's baby's father's favorite folk musician" jag that it's drifting into...

I believe it's a performer's right to express their beliefs (political or otherwise) at their concerts. To suppress their right to do so isn't "free" speech as you can't have it both ways.

Let me throw this out to the crowd. If anyone here decided it was acceptable to start strolling through their place of business giving political speeches on company time instead of doing what you get paid to do, how long would you keep your job? The only difference between you doing that and a performer doing it during a concert (his job) is you don't have a public forum in which to spout off.

It would be difficult to have a true reunion since Paul Hester took his own life.

I agree - saw them at Camp Randall Stadium in Madison in 1988 and loved it.

Except nowhere is it written that a musician is getting paid to play music only. Concerts are their platform to do whatever they please and has been thus for time immortal.
