All of a sudden it seems I have cords everywhere.... for my computer that is.... Cords for the 2 digital cameras... (of course they need different cords), cords for the wireless internet... cords for the thinghy that allows me to hear my music over the speakers in the pool.... the joystick cords for Dave's Tiger Woods Golf and Nascar games.... its endless.
I went wireless for the mouse and keyboard... so that eliminated a few...but this is crazy... every time I need to hook up a new peripherall...I need to find the cords to go with it.....
So my question is...how do you keep yours organized?
I hate this. And I really love when I have a problem with cable and they tell me to start unplugging specific things. Um, yeah, I have a neat little desk where I can instantly find the plug to the router. Hehe.
Periodically I get really sick of it and try to clean it up. I bought a bunch of wire ties, some foam sticky hook things, etc. Then I unplug everything at once, run the cords so they are close together, and wire tie everything together. Then i tape it to the back of the desk. When I'm finished I sweep and mop under there since I usually haven't been able to due to the cord spaghetti that's been there for months.
What I don't understand is how it all gets undone. Bit by bit it all starts to go back to the spaghetti mess. It's like it must return to its natural order and don't try to stop it. Aack.
If you go to a good electronics store they do have real things to help. There are strips you can hide some of the mess behind, etc.
Navy Seals are Cooler then Pirates You Can Dream Anyway, There's always next year!!!
Mine are all under the desk , with 2 power bars, except the Firewire for one of the cameras. Others get stuffed back into their boxes, if I know where to plug them in if I need them. I often end up plugging stuff in to power in the bathroom, cause I get so annoyed! (and there is a transformer for the 220V stuff we bought when we lived in France--I think we're down to one thing, the printer that's 12 years old and works like a charm)
Get a Squid. It won't change the number of cords you have but they are far more flexible than a power strip for all those grounded plugs so it may help with some of the mess.
They make both surge protected and regular outlets, and they are finally starting to be available in stores. I actually saw one in Bed, Bath and Beyond in VA over the holidays.
You could get something like this for the digital cameras
