the first thing you want to do is go talk to the folks at SCORE, they're retired business people who volunteer their services and provide advice about starting your own business or buying a business. they're afffilated with the SBA and if you apply for an SBA loan you have to use them..... they offer all kinds of classes and one on one services. also go check out the SBA website there's a wealth of info there.

my dad is volunteers with SCORE and if you PM me with your particulars i can ask him who you should contact. or check the phone book they should be listed in the government section. or call the local SBA office and ask them.

As the former owner of a franchise that failed, I'll offer these $.02. Make sure the franchise is not a "fad" business of any kind and don't try to bail one out that isn't doing well, even if they offer it to you for almost nothing. Find out the REAL reason the owner is letting it go so you don't end up f'ed

We're going to set up a meeting with them.....I wouldn't even consider it without letting a cpa (of my choosing, not theirs) look at financial statements.....it may not be feasible, but I won't know unless I look in to it....definitely going in to it with eyes wide open, the last thing I want to do is jeopardize my finances................such that they are.
