Tailgating Allowed in Houston but at a High Price

Post by phjim »

There's an article in the Houston Chronicle that reports on the extra parking fees for those who want to tailgate before the Houston show: "Buffett fans get to party

The article mentions tailgaiting will be allowed at Minute Maid Park for the first time ever for the concert on April 21st. Fans will have to pay extra for the opportunity to tailgate. Lot B will be available for cars and trucks at $50 a space and Lot C will be open for RV vehicles at $175 each.

And you thought the concert ticket prices were high ! :o

The "plocking," as Buffett fans call their parties, will be confined to Parking Lots B and C on the west side of the stadium.
Sheesh.

And you have to wonder, if this is successful, will other venues try to impose the same fees.

we'll be doing our best to be sure it doesn't work. hosting our own, BN party across the street.

I thought $20 for parking was ok, if you get the whole day. but $50? come on.

Maybe they charge more because of all the trash left behind they have to pick up. [smilie=huh-ani.gif]

While our groups are mindful to clean up after ourselves, I can't say I've observed this about other folks.

2004, Orlando.. the sound of breaking glass.. over and over. 9 fratrats had decided to see if they could pitch Corona bottles into a trash can.. a metal mesh trash can... glass was spraying all over the lot thanks to their "conscientious natures"

It appears that the magnitude of this goes *way* beyond nickles and dimes.

For $175, you could probably get a motel room for two or three nights.

My wife and I have noticed this at the last few shows, it looks like a tornado tore through the place. Admitedly so the parking lot gathering adds another massive area to clean up.... that you just don't see at other shows, mainly because there aren't parking lot festivities, but none the less i'm sure it takes a significant amount of additional man hours to clean up after a buffett show when compared to some other shows.

Unfortunately  , at Great Woods in Mansfield, MA, they have to rent a huge number of Porta Johns (or else use the woods), so they figure this into the clean-up costs. It's gotta be expensive, judging by the mess many people leave behind!

I was at the bar where we are having the Friday night welcome party at last night with PHritz 01. We asked the bar owners which lots were B & C. This is where they told us those lots are located...

if someone knows differently, let me know and I'll change the graphic.
