Buffett Perfect for New State Song
The Orlando Sentinel has an article that endorses Buffett for the new state song: "There's just one artist perfect for new state song"

Buffett is the only artist in America who captures us -- or at least what we want to be. His easygoing calypso rhythms infused with steel drums and trumpet are the ticket to paradise. He throws in an occasional country tune and mixes it all with sweet ballads.
However, Buffett sings one wistful ballad that would make a lovely Florida state song. It's called "I Have Found Me a Home." Several stanzas hearken back to what Florida was before the boom and the tourists hit.

Great article. There are so many songs that Florida can choose from. The obvious would be Floridays. But the song I most associate with Florida is Tin Cup Chalice. It reminds me of the first time I saw a Gulf Coast sunset. Let me tell you it brought tears to my eyes. Any time I visit Florida, TCC runs through my head for the entire time I am there.
They will probably not consider Trying to Reason With Hurricane Season.

Well, "You can have the rest of everything I own" does have a good ring to it - like Disney eating up more wetlands, Miami eating up more Everglades and Key West rents so high even the seagulls have to pay a tax.
And so on.
I'd hate to be reminded of what it used to be cause it's gone.
Floridays is a better choice. Tin Cup is a great choice too. Hell, Migration would be a good one but it's kind of, now anyway, anti-Disney/sprawl/etc...

True, Tin Cup plays out more like a travel ad. But imagine the commercial they could tie into it... It's still my sentimental favorite.SchoolGirlHeart wrote:Great article. Great idea!
I think I'd like Floridays better, but a Buffett song would be perfect for FL
Floridays original or the 2006 version?

They won't consider Floridays because of this line, "I'm back a livin' Floridays, Blue skies and Ultraviolet rays, Looking for better days."
You don't want a state song that implies everyone here wants something better (even if the intention is that they came here to find better days).
Tin Cup Chalice is out because of one of my favorite lines, "Give me oysters and beer for dinner every day of the year, and I feel fine." Not to mention "i wanna go back down and get high by the sea there."
Tin Cup Chalce is one of my favorite songs, but state history is taught in 5th grade if I remember correctly. Can you imagine the complaints from parents.
Of course just about anything is better than the official lyrics of the current state song (written by someone who had never been to Florida and even misspelled the name of the Suwannee River).
For those who don't know the song, here's the chorus, "All de world am sad and dreary, Eb-rywhere I roam, Oh, darkeys, *how my heart grows weary, Far from de old folks at home!"
I think I Have Found Me a Home is good choice, but they may try to change the word "bars," but they may let that one slide.

Any JB song they would use would have to be slightly altered. Luckily Jimmy is the master of changing his lyrics to fit the occasion!PalmettoSon wrote:They won't consider Floridays because of this line, "I'm back a livin' Floridays, Blue skies and Ultraviolet rays, Looking for better days."

Great article.
I especially like this one reply:
Great article. Jimmy is THE man and there's no place better in the world than Florida.
What about "Floridays"? "I'm back to living Floridays, Blue skies and ultraviolet rays."
Or "Tin Cup Chalice"(my favorite):"I want to be there, I want to go back down and lie beside the sea there."
Go to http://www.buffettnews.com/songs.html and type a word in (Florida, A1A, etc) and see whet comes up!

Yep, JB could make any of these songs work.dewyduster wrote: Any JB song they would use would have to be slightly altered. Luckily Jimmy is the master of changing his lyrics to fit the occasion!
And good for the article's author.
