I love SC, but Last Man Standing just rocks, especially with Sonny on slide guitar, one of my favorites. Gotta go with LMS

Turing 30 this year and although I realize I am not that old . . . yet, I still beat all my early 20's friends every night we party. Great lyrics Mr. Buffett. (and if you all like the other tune go check out the cross for yourselves if you haven't - go it alone or with a lover; it so worth be out there. just don't pay for a guide - it is not that hard to find.).

Is there no merit for originality anymore!? I mean CSN's version doesn't sound horribly different it's not as if the piece was recreated.
I had to go with Last Man Standing. I am a purist and believe in crediting original works over covers.

Again . . . Not knocking the cover but rating a cover above an original song is where I take issue. I am glad that someone else sees it my way.

Vote for whichever song you like better.
It's not a question of "Jimmy" vs a "cover", it's a vote for which one you like more. Lyrically, I think Southern Cross is a better song, which is why I voted for it.
And I consider LMS a "Mac" song.

Yep, and yep.
While I like CSN's original, Jimmy brings so much energy to his version of Southern Cross that it was an easy choice for me.
I enjoy Last Man Standing too, but I had to check the credits to see if Jimmy had a credit on that song. He did, but it sure sounds like Mac had more of an influence on that song.

I am sure that many of Jimmy's song have strong influences where he writes something down he over heard or whatever. Also, I am sure that Jimmy co - writes lots of songs or has help in that regard. As long as Jimmy took part in some of the writing or contributed in some way that is all I care about.

You know, I never even paid enough attention to who wrote what songs to know if on was a Mac song or a Jimmy song or a whoever song. My original instinct here was to go with LMS because of the original vs. cover debate as well, and thinking that the original should be valued higher, plus I really like LMS. All that being said, however, I can't think of a more appropriate non JB song for him to cover. Yes, it isn't much different than CSN's version, and yes I have seen CSN do it live...first concert I ever went to. It's one of my all time favorite songs being done by my all time favorite singers. It wins.
