In the words of Jerry Jeff ... "maybe Mexico"! It has to be ... so many great memories of this song from university nights spent in the Scotch & Sirloin.

Happy James' cover trumps Ol' Hank's cover in my book!

Mexico by default, on the whole I wasn't crazy about most of the songs on LTC and HGL isn't one of the exceptions. Never been a big country fan.

As others have stated, Mexico "feels" more JB like. However, I have a soft spot in the heart this H.W. classic as it was one my dad's fav's (RIP) that I can remember when I was a tot and JB's version on LTC brought back some fond memories. Nonetheless, I'll vote for the "Sleepy seniorita with the eyes on fire."

As Jimmy once ad-libed....
I've got to get my ass down to Mexico."
It is the better cover. Althought there's nothing wrong with his version of HG.

James Taylor versus Hank Williams . . . I choose to remain quiet on this front.

well . . . I saw him do Pour Some Sugar on Me by Def Leopard once out here on the island. It was sort of a joke. That would be my number 1.
I am sure the answer you will get is BEG.

I understand Bubba throws in some country roots occassionally for flavor I just always thought "Hey Good Lookin" was some moguls pure attempt at commercial success....and I guess he(whoever) was right but I like Sweet Baby James "Mexico" best !

Yeah, so orignal vs cover argument goes right out the window. HGl is good, but Mexico just fits in.
And speaking of covers, I hate to betray my ignorance, but what is BEG?
