Fredericksburg, VA - Prince George, Colonial Beach area
I've been offered a job in Dahlgren, Virginia which is 25 miles east of Fredericksburg. Anyone familiar with the area? I'm waiting to see what the salary offer will be and that's a huge factor right there.
Anyone that can offer ANY information, links, etc, would be GREAT!!!

I'm VERY familiar with the area (twenty years ago, before it practically became a suburb of Washington D.C.). Dahlgren is still a lovely, sleepy, rural area. (Read that as "pretty to look at, but not a lot to "do"). But it's w/in about 30 minutes of plenty to do...CIP in Fredericksburg, and then some stuff if you go up to Maryland. Captain Billy's crab house is near there, right on the river. What stuff are you looking for?
Dahlgren lies on the banks of the Potomac River at the south end of the Harry W Nice Bridge. This is one of only two Potomac River crossings south of DC. I happen to look forward to passing through Dahlgren -- it has a reputation for the cheapest gas prices around. (I do not know why.)
I do not live or work there, but from what I have seen there ain't much in Dahlgren except the Naval Surface Weapons Research Center and a handful of commercial/retail enterprises (gas stations, fast food, motel, strip mall). The surrounding countryside is beautiful, and it is not a long drive to get to Fredericksburg, VA or Waldorf, MD, where you will find abundant shopping, dining, and traffic.
Will you be responsible for finding your own living quarters?

Yes, I'll have to find my own place and hopefully a place where I can keep at least one of my dogs. Auntie - yes it's Prince George County. I know there isn't alot to do and that's ok. I grew up in an even more rural area in WV. As long as there are things to do within a short distance, that's ok by me.
