Plasma vs. LCD flat panel

As some of you may know, FinsUpNorth are purchasing a newer, larger home in early May. The finished basement has a bar and perfect spot for a nice TV. I've never owned a LCD or plasma, so I'm looking for the pros and cons of each. We're thinking either a 42 or a 46inch. We're not sure which brand yet, but some opinion or advice would be really helpful.

I would suggest LCD over a plasma. The LCD is much more clearer of an image and you also don't have to worry about picture burn that you may get with a plasma TV. Today's plasmas may not have it or not as much as before, but you still may get it. Plus, I think I heard somewhere that some of the logos that the networks keep on the bottom corners are not good for the plasmas.

I know nothing about them, but if the two of you are coming to the Tinley concert (or Alpine for the matter), I would drive up to ABT Electronics and talk with them--it's an amazing store, and every tv and appliance in my home was bought there. I can recommend a great salesperson there, and have found they tend to give great advice--not the most expensive product, but the right product.
And no, I don't work for them or anything, but I trust my salesman there completely.

I recently purchased an LCD for my bedroom 37in. and I LOVE IT!!!!!!! The thing you have to think about when looking at the picture in the store is think about the distance you will be viewing from. Up close no TV picture is that great but with the right view and distance it was a clear choice for me. Be sre it has HDMI at the least for hook up.

We recently got us a 37" LCD Sharp Aquos.
It has been just perfect with incredible picture quality. Now many may view things differently but from what we experienced the LCD was the one for us.

Well, I voted for Plasma, but after reading your requirements......under 50" go LCD. The picture quality of LCD's diminish as the screen gets larger. 50" is about the biggest you can go.

Just love my Samsung 56" DLP.
Eric you should seriously consider DLP. Great picture and cheaper then LCD or Plasma. Only draw back is they are not as flat as LCD or plasma but flatter than your CRT

I almost bought the 61" RCA. IT was cheaper and came with a free stand (I think) but went with the Samsung as it was rated higher in consumer reports
