I can't believe there has been this much discussion about this matter..."breaking even," "making a few bucks????" I have ended up w/an extra ticket or two on a quite a few occasions. I always sell it for a few bucks less than what I paid for it...it's just nice to see a parrothead smile. That is much more important to me than making $$$$$$$$$$

There are too many people who don't get what it's all about, you do. The whole idea of going to a Buffett concert is to enjoy the show, both before and during the concert. Unfortunately there are slugs who shall remain nameless who think it's OK to make a profit because they were lucky enough to get tickets.

I had understood this was a public posting area. It is NOT. It boils down to this: a group of Nazi SOB's overrun / attack anyone with a differing opinion, to the point of hacking into their computers. That's real cool. We all have one thing in common: Buffett. Unfortunately, while Bubba shows tolerance and acceptance of other's ideas, our little goose stepping friends don't. Not only will they ridicule (i.e. read above re: Mr. Scott) they go beyond that with a little hacking / software damage. Well, hacking goes two ways my friends, but that isn't what this is all about. I would never think of hacking your computer because I disagree with your opinion on tickets or whatever. I'd probably buy you a beer instead. My opinion of Parrotheads has taken a turn for the worse. I had thought we we were all cut from the same mold. We aren't and that's too bad. I'll still enjoy Buffett, of course, but I'll be looking for swastikas instead of fins at the concerts.

Anon: This board's problems with Mr. Scott goes back a good bit. It was he who started personal attacks. Unfortunately, many of us were goaded into responding (including myself).
You are right in that we are all Jimmy phans, and that we do differ on items from time to time, but most of us do not attack nor get personal. We do have some animated discussions from time to time, but there are some who take it to a unsavory level. Seemingly, that is the nature of many web boards but, like in life, there are always those who wish to "rain on the parade". Such is the case with Mr. Scott.
There are some who have a more specific history of this, and they may be able to show you, from inception, how this came to be, if you are interested in accuracy. I can only give you my opinion of all of this.
So, feel free to continue your name calling if you wish, just don't expect too many kind responses.

VOLcano - Thanks, I appreciate your comments and insight. I don't know Mr. Scott from the man in the moon but as an outsider looking in, it sure seems he gets group thumped pretty good around here, and for comments which to me don't seem to be name calling, negative, etc. I agree with most of his thoughts - especially relating to ticket buying. He has a different approach to tickets which I agree with, but many here don't. It is this simple: I see everyone sweating, crying, complaining and blaming anyone in sight over the inability to get tickets. I just buy mine from a scalper, sometimes paying a premium and sometimes not. When I do pay pay a premium, it is worth it to me. I spend no time or energy to get tickets and I sit up front (3rd row floor in Oakland for $150 extra for the pair). People seemingly want my head - and Mr. Scott's - on a stake for this approach. That doesn't make me any less of a Parrothead than anyone else. It is simply a supply and demand issue as it is with anything else in this world.
Anyway, what are your thoughts on what I've heard on the hacking front (i.e. people who "disagree" are hacked) ? I've heard it from 3 different people... If you have insight into this, I'd like the benefit of your wisdom... I can hack as well as the next guy (trust me)and just want to know if I should planned on being hacked by fellow Parrotheads who disagree with my position on ticket buying...
Thanks and take care.

I am not a fan of scalping, simply because it is hard for individuals to get good seats when competing against an organized business with several employees. I will admit that I have used scalpers from time to time, but I have limits on what percentage markup that I will tolerate.
However, rest assured, Mr. Scott's lack of popularity has little to do with his stance on scalpers/brokers than it does with his attitude. He has been rude to many good people in here (some of whom I have met in person), and I simply feel that he is an "agitator"....he gets off on causing trouble.
I am against hacking, personally, as I am against most any invasion of privacy.
Anyway, find yourself a good "handle", come over to the Sandbar and let me buy you a cold one!

VOLcano - Thanks for the invite. I'll take you up on that.
On the hacking issue, you mention you are personally against it (me too). Have you heard of it happening on this site for people who aren't of the same frame of mind as the majority ?
One person (not Mr. Scott) told me "the board" has an assigned hacker to go after people who they view as jerks or whatever. I love the idea of sharing ideas opposite Bubba with others who are in the same boat, but my opinions are my opinions and I probably won't agree with everyone all of the time. If that means I'm going to get hacked -- and I guarantee someone else is going to get hacked in a major way if that happens -- I'd rather just move on. Life is too short. I'd appreciate any insight you have as it sounds like you've been around here for awhile. Thanks again.

If there is someone who does this, I am unaware of who it is. There maybe someone who does do this, but I would have to believe that is rare and only an extreme response to an extremely rude person, and I am sure no one was "assigned".
I believe there was one other person who was universally disliked, and that is why these numbers next to the name became a necessity, as this person would post messages using other's names.
You can always disagree here, but just don't make it personal.

Anon 143:
I've been frequenting this site for a year and since then I've met (in person) about 1/3rd of the people that hang out here.
Each of them is a kind, loving, and generous person. And although I haven't met many of the others I've still had the privelege of knowing them "online" for up to a year; they too, have the same qualities of the people I HAVE met.
I wouldn't trade the friendships I've made here for anything else in the world - I consider them to be members of my family, CyberCousins, so-to-speak.
Sure we are very close and yes, it was our love of Buffett that brought us all in here. Honestly, I didn't come in here looking for "them", I came in here looking for info on bootlegs. What I found is worth sooooo much more; I earned their friendship a long time ago and I did it by being nice, supportive, thoughtful, and backing them up when someone would give them a jab in the ribs.
I would do anything for these people and often have.
The things I've done for these amazingly beautiful people I've done because I believe in doing nice things for nice people.
I try to get along with most people in society - things like Race and Religion are immaterial to me. For the most part I believe in letting people do what people do, but there is a limit to that too.
I will admit that I've made a few comments toward Mr Scott, but I fully feel that they were warranted. He has been more than a thorn in the sides of these people ever since he dropped in here. He started by being insulting and then tried to be apologetic and nice and in return, we too were nice, but it was only a matter of days before he reverted back to his verbally abusive and vulgar self.
Yes, this is a public posting area, but the "privelege" that comes with being able to post here does not give ANYONE the "right" to treat others like garbage just because we don't see things his/her way.
VOL is correct when he says that Mr. Scott started this whole affair of verbal violence, but it's not so much a matter of who was here first, or who started what, so much as it is a matter of simple humanity.
NO PERSON here would initiate anyone in the brutal way that Mr. Scott does, but when ugliness rears its head we will most certainly NOT back down.
We've tried ignoring, many of us are still doing that, but everyone has their limit - eventually there is an attack so vulgar and disgusting that to ignore it would go against anyone's own morals.
I have a sister who converted to Judaism - she deals with the prejudices that come with it; surely YOU do also. Would you not stand up for the rights of your people? How many times have you let comments bounce off of you until you just couldn't take it anymore?
By comparison - we do the same thing, but we do NOT initiate the attacks.
My opinions on scalping and hacking are similar to those of most other people here - I DON'T like it, but that is just my opinion; same as your opinion is yours. You won't get me to change my mind about exorbitant prices paid to scalpers and I'm not going to try to change your mind either, but we CAN have a "nice" exchange of ideas, right?
No, I don't expect to share the same ideals with everyone who comes in here and I certainly don't expect those same people to always be nice. Which brings me to an interesting point:
The nice people tend to stick around here more than the nasty people. The reason is because they are nice from the beginning and it tends to go hand in hand with the Golden Rule - "treat others as you would want them to treat YOU" (which, ironically, is almost what it states in the "rules and netiquette" section of this very website).
Had Mr. Scott been nice from the start and continued to be as such, then none of this would have ever happened.
Crude people pop in here everyday, but we generally just "shrug it off", because we figure that they are only here to make a single post and then cyber-surf outta here, which is usually the case.
It's the mean ones who come in here for the long haul that are the people we put up our defenses for.
And isn't being defensive just a part of human nature? Are we wrong to get defensive against a man who comes in here and makes endless vulgar attacks and insults us?
Is HE wrong to get defensive when we retaliate against HIS attacks.
If a person can't take the heat, then why would they even go into the kitchen and turn on the oven?
I would also like to reiterate what VOL and Burgh said:
Stop by the Sandbar and have a cold one.
Fins up!

Anon143,
in regard to Mr. Scott:
If a guest to your home began verbally abusing other guests, would you have a word with that person?
And if the offending behavior did not cease, would you ask that person to leave? Or would you allow the rude and offensive behavior to continue in your home?
Several posts to you have been much more eloquent than I in this regard, as witness to how the regulars here deal with differing opinions without personal attacks.
And please, let's have no more rumor mongering/intimidation in regard to hacking.
Cheers

Anon- I believe that we have "spoken" before. And yes, I believe even I stooped to the level of name calling, only after becoming agitated enough to do so. I think the scalping subject is one that falls into the love it/hate it/no gray area category, lending itself to various passions, and in some cases, aggressions. I am relatively new to the people on this board, but I have seen, and been involved in many conversations of differring opinion in which animosity (of the magnitude on the scalper issue, or any issue for that matter) did not rear its ugly head. If you go to the Parrot Social page and scroll down a bit to a conversation regarding the death of Dale Earnhardt, many of us expressed our opinions of Dale the man, car safety, and racing as a sport in general. You will notice 2 things right away upon reading that thread. While each person had their own opinion, all other opinions were treated with respect, there was no name-calling, or trash talking. I believe that I even made a comment about it in one of my posts. The second thing that you will notice is that the aforementioned Mr. Scott was not present in that conversation. Had he been involved, I'm afraid that the tone of that thread may have turned very sour. Mr. Scott has taken things to the personal level on more than a few tasteless occasions. And while I have not met anyone else who posts on this board, I am very fond of every single one of these people, and detest anyone who would personally insult them. Mr. Scott has done that, and has lost the respect he desperately yearns for here. From this point on, we have no reason to hack into his computer or do anything else to him. He no longer exists in the sandbar.
But you on the other hand, like Volcano said, are welcome. Pick a good name for yourself, and come on over to the fun bar and spend some time with us. As long as you treat the others with respect, they will do the same. Fins up!

Burgh, Headparrothead and Colonel, Thanks for your comments. Colonel, I wasn't rumor mongering or attempting any intimidation with respect to hacking - I was only asking a question of VOLcano who seems to know what's up here. I have heard from 3 different people regarding hacking on this site and I was inquiring if that was common or a practice here (I had heard some individual named jerseyrat was hacking people he or she didn't agree with. I haven't seen that person here to my knowledge). I hope you would agree that's a fair question. My only comment regarding Mr. Scott is that as an outsider looking in, it sure seems he more than get his fair share of abuse but I'll let him speak for himself. You all take care... Best wishes.
