Drive-by Truckers broke up? Who knew?

In news that I'm sure will shock and dismay everybody on this board...apparently the Drive-by Truckers had a falling-out with their guitarist/vocalist a while back. Somewhere...Jah is crying....

The DBT's did not break up. A member left to pursue other things.

Drive-By Truckers bounce back from split with guitarist

Drive-By Truckers (tickets | music) have added new dates to a tour now greatly altered by the recent departure of longtime guitarist/vocalist Jason Isbell.

The band--through a message penned by frontman Patterson Hood--announced last week on its website that the group and Isbell would be parting ways immediately. Hood termed the split "extremely amicable" and cited "differing dreams and goals" as the motivator for Isbell's departure.

"We all are wishing him nothing but the absolute best on every step that plays before him," Hood wrote in the posting.

Now short one guitarist, the group will soldier on through the rest of its spring/summer schedule, which now features a few new dates in June and July, most of them in southern states. The trek resumes April 20 in Nashville, with 17 cities on the itinerary--included below--through mid-summer.

Somewhat ironically, Hood had broached the idea of a coming change for the band in a pre-tour posting on the group's website, saying that the group "wanted to go out and do something a little different. Maybe revisit some songs in a different light, maybe try out some new stuff on a smaller scale, maybe tell some stories and sing some songs. Pull up some chairs, have a few drinks and tell some stories to each other and some friends."

Isbell is currently playing a number of solo dates in advance of his debut solo album, "Sirens of the Ditch," due in stores July 10.

Drive-By Truckers are supporting their most recent album, "A Blessing and a Curse," which surfaced last April. The set debuted at No. 50 on The Billboard 200 chart, and is the band's fastest-selling record to date, according to New West.

No, he wasn't the lead vocalists or lead guitarists. He did sing vocals on a few songs. He wasn't even one of the original members. He only joined the band in 2001. That being said, I did enjoy what he did with the DBT's. The latest cd "Blessing and a Curse" is really good.

Apparently you haven't heard of Widespread Panic or Allman Brothers or Lynard Skynard.

Seen em all in concert actually. But I don't really consider them to be the same bands they once were when they had all their original members. (At least the Allmans and Skynyrd anyways). Sure, the bands still exist by the same name, but its hard to compare the current line-up of Skynyrd or the Allmans with the original. Thats not to say that the current musicians in those band's aren't talented...but severe line-up changes really change a band forever.

That being said...arguging about broken-up bands wasn't the point of my post. I just wanted to throw a Drive-By Truckers thread out there for the people who have been posting in this section for years who remember and were annoyed by all the Drive-By Trucker threads from one old BN'er.

I saw them at Bonnaroo a few years ago and from the list it looks like they were playing the All Good Festival, which is near my hometown (already got my ticket!).

Does this mean they won't be there or are they finding someone to fill in?

Nope they already have a new guy plugged in apparently. They should be there.

One of the original members who plays pedal steel and guitar is back with them and has been for a little while. They appear to not be worried about replacing Jason at this time from what all I've read.

Saw their show at the Soul Kitchen in Mobile. They sounded pretty good. Patterson said the previous show was almost a disaster with it being John Neff's first show. Things were a bit rough he said. You'd of never known with the Mobile show. The opened up with Aftermath USA.

They've started work on a new album. I think it'll be out sometime this fall. That would be great.

And Jason Isbell's album Sirens Of The Ditch comes out July 11th I think. Whatever that Tuesday is.
