The Nor' Easter

Post by thebeachbumm33 »

Well I was kinda looking forwarded to a good storm and maybe some of our phriends up north are taking more than they should but this one seems to be all hype... The winds are not evident, my street is dry, and well living 3 blocks from the beach, I guess I'll have to wait for the next one to own that coveted beach front property I so desire :P :P

Nope we're getting pounded here on Long Island.

Although it's not as bad as they're saying on the weather channel that we need to have clean water and canned food ready for the next few days.

It's like getting the remnants of a hurricane that's moved it's way up to the north. A lot of rain, some wind, but we still have power and the basement's not flooded (knock on wood!!!)

Sometimes more than others,
we see who and what and where we are,
I'm just a one man band,
With my feet in the sand,
Tonight I just need my guitar

If I didn't have to spend an extra hour on the road this morning because of a closed road, closed bridge and a traffic light out, I probably would have enjoyed the storm more.

5 1/2 inches of rain yesterday and it's still coming down this morning. My train got to my station on time but it was almost 40 minutes late getting to Penn station because of what the LIRR called a "high water condition" (their phrase for a flood) at one of the East River tunnels.

It's not so much the 2 1/2 inches of snowy slush, heinous winds, and crappy temperatures that I mind so much in the middle of April (yeah, that's a lot of sarcasm there), it's the &$^#@*#& morons that think for some reason they can still do their typical 85 down the highway like they do every morning, weaving in and out of lanes because god forbid someone actually take their time plowing through the slush.

*sigh*

We had a lot of tree limbs down and at some point last night or this morning the water (ocean) was covering our road (A1A...or Boston Neck if ya live in RI) but the fence around the beach is destroyed, some of the light poles are down, there are no traffic lights and they have bulldozers that are removing sand from the road and putting it back on the beach. Jeeze...

Snowed all day yesterday but didn't start to stick til late afternoon. Broke a birch tree next to my house in half - heavy wet crap got about 4 inches before it turned to torrential downpour. Power went out at 2:30 AM and just came back on about half an hour ago. All the precip has stopped but the wind is still screaming. Blew the roof off a GE plant south of here.

Winter stinks!

Nor are those who are running a convention, with people flying in, and an airport that was closed for half a day because a wall in the terminal collapsed :o

well I think we got a nice blustery n'easter. Not the terrible flooding of other parts of the state though. I, along with all my neighbors moved our cars to high ground for nothing though. But we've been caught unaware several times this year and none of us wanted to be vacuuming out water again.

I've gotten off lucky so far in southern ME. I've kept
my power all day and only had some bamboo fencing
destroyed in the backyard. Down the street 7 or more
homes will be washed out to sea from the astronomical
high tides. A local grandmother and grandaughter were
killed in the flooding. Incredible damage to the seacoast
area. The winds are picking up again and I'm praying for
all of those locally that are much worse off than I.
