I remember her telling me it takes her two hours to get home from work. She's a civilian army employee in LA. So maybe she lives in W. Covina. Hopefully more like lake Forest.Midnight Flyer wrote:Lake Forest-5 to 10 minutesdiverg wrote:Does anyone know where West Covina, or Lake Forest is in relation to the concert venue?
West Covina-45 minutes to 2 hours.

Slipping in and out of John Wayne could be a solid option from Chicago.
Is this a sell-out show? I just want to prepare for the time changes to get tickets when I need tickets.

The Parrot Dice Lounge kinda like a mirage. Here today and gone tomorrow. You should stop by and say hello when visiting Chicago on tour.

Well I just had a quick email from my friend. So maybe I'll end up in Irvine instead of Tampa.diverg wrote:Well I'll probably only go if I can get in touch wih my friend, and shes available that weekend. I won't be driving int hat case.Plus I'm not sure where she lives on the LA area.
Do you think this show will sell out quick? How big of a venue is this place?

Southern California-Late summer weather, surrounded by palm trees, opens around 11AM, Irvine cops are usually pretty cool. What more could you ask for or want to know????

I'll call Lynn tomorrow and ask where she and several others stayed, I know it was close to the venue. We partied in the hotel lot while waiting for word via our little phone tree that the lots were open, made friends with some other PHs that were there as well. Good times.diverg wrote:Wat about nearby hotels? If I was looking on expedia, hotwire etc for hotels what specfic area should I plug into to get close to the venue? Would Irvine suffice, or is there a more specific area?

It is near the Irvine spectrum. I'm not sure what the closest hotel actually is, but anything at/near the spectrum would be very close.diverg wrote:Wat about nearby hotels? The Bowl seats about 17,000 full. For those of us who have been regular summer attendees, we know that you CANNOT park or tailgate there!! They Stack Park the cars, nose to tail and side to side about 15 inches apart. Usually, you get to the concert by taking the special buses from about 20 park -and -ride lots for the outlying parts of Los Angeles County. They have room for less than 3,000 cars, early arrivals, stack parked, at the Bowl. Or you can stay in Hollywood --suggest Renaissance (Marriott) at Hollywood and Highland, or Comfort or Holiday Inns on N. Highland, all within walking distance of the Bowl, or if you have money, the Chateau Marmont.
We usually take the bus from Lakewood. It's the closest to the OC. You can pre buy your bus tickets, $2.50 each way, or you can buy at the stop, but then you wait longer (they load the prepurchased bus people first). You can take a cooler or tote of food and drinks in; there are not restrictions, and there are dining, picnic, and drink venues all around the Bowl, but they are generally oriented toward a glass of wine, not Margaritaville, however, they will likely make an adjustment. You park free from wherever you took the bus. So you could stay in Anaheim near Disneyland and take a bus from Lakewood, near the Lakewood Mall, and pre buy your bus tix, and be fine. The Bowl website has all the bus info.
This is not a typical Buffett venue, but is the summer home of the LA Phil. The thing is, any performer who is anyone has played the Bowl at least once, so would expect he would want to. And it is a wonderful place to see anyone. All the seats are great, all the sound is great, they have the big screens up for "close ups" and the view of the carefully undeveloped hills of Griffith Park at sunset behind the Bowl, the stars, the glimpses you get of the lit Hollywood sign if you are seated higher up, it's all a dream. The Bowl is a lifetime experience, if you've never done it, you should.
