CBS newsman Ed Bradley was a big fan of the New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival. On Friday, the Jazz Fest honored his memory and his two decades of support with an opening-day jazz funeral procession, complete with two brass bands.
Quint Davis introduced singer Jimmy Buffett as the person who first brought Bradley to the festival in the 1980s, and the first to pull him up on a stage and hand him a tambourine.
“Bless you, Father, for bringing us a really bad tambourine player but a great friend,” Buffett said Friday.
Buffett took credit for giving Bradley the nickname “Teddy Badly.” About 45 of Bradley’s friends participating in the parade wore small green pins with the name “Teddy” printed on them.
More on Jimmy in New Orleans (from Duris): There was a reception at Harrah's for the Jazz Fest foundation with a presentation honoring Ed Bradley. Jimmy performed "Do You Know What it Means to Miss New Orleans" with Allen Toussaint. He presented a check from the sale of the swimsuit model guitar for $47,000. The proceeds went to the Habitat and a local music foundation.

I loved seeing the clip of "Teddy" singing "Sixty Minute Man" on stage in one of the CBS news magazine's segments.
Prior to that , my favorite cover of that song was the Persuasion's acapella version.
After Ed passed, Jimmy made reference to Mr. Bradley's love of performing it on stage.
He laughed and said that he only had one song that he could do, and that he really could'nt sing that one either.
Those two must have had alot of fun hanging together.
Ed Bradley serves as a good reminder for the rest of us that we shouldn't wait too long before we do what we want to do in life.
Remember, it was Jimmy who told Ed to go ahead and wear the earing on Sixty Minutes.
That's probably the one thing that almost everone remembers about him!!

Well, this must be the 'surprise' the Mr Buffett and SJ discussed, that parrotheads hadn't yet nosed out.....
We sure didnt!! Come on, gang!! How could we have missed this? We obviously dont have our ears to the ground....must be spring fever...or maybe Bama Breeze Fever.
And its probably just as well....its such a great thing to have done, that without doubt, if we'd known about it, many would have joined in...many, many, many.....you get the idea...
Perhaps its just as well that Mr. Buffett was left to mourn his friend in peace....
Yes, I think so.
