Do you have a cell phone and landline?

Post by carey24 »

"That's a potential problem because people with only cell phones tend to be disproportionately young and have lower incomes."

I must say I'm offended.....I'm 30 and own my own home (by myself).

To me it was just stupid to pay for a line for salespeople to call me on. Anyone I want to talk to has my cell number. I used to give the landline number to anyone I didn't want to talk to.

Does it also offend you that the highest percentage were males, or Hispanics?
I'm older than you by half your lifetime and I ported my landline to a cell a year ago. I pay 1/3 of what I used to pay for both. Bottom line: I save money.
I would never answer those polls anyway. They always have the uncanny knack to call at dinner time.

Oh, and I love this part:
Nearly 2 percent of adults had no phone at all.

The figures were based on interviews with people in 13,056 households from June through December last year.
How'd they get hold of those 2 percent?

I have both a landline and my cell.

Thanks to dial-up I have to keep my home phone.

BUT, I've had the same home number for many, many
years and I don't want to get rid of it...

just in case this cell phone thing is only a fad!

Cell and landline. Won't ever get rid of landline. Simply because if I can't charge my cell, I have no way to communicate. Also, I live near an AFB, and reception is often little or nothing.

I have both and, like Penny, I can't conceive of ditching my landline. Cell service around my house is ify at best and my landline has unlimited calling any time and all distances including Canada which has been very handy - not so with my cell.

Three cell phones (one a blackberry), two landlines, and three toll free numbers to reach me. But then I work for Verizon ("real" job) and I've run an in internet hosting company http://www.island-images.com (shameless self plug) since 1995.

The best thing about having two landlines is that we NEVER even answer the "main" line. I only use it to occasionally check messages. We only give that number out to businesses or whomever that sometimes require a phone number. That's the number that is listed in the phone directory so between the phone directory and giving the number out to businesses, that's the number that get's hammered with tele-marketers. So we never answer it.

The second "aux" line is not listed anywhere and only family and friends know that number so it rarely if ever rings from someone I don't want to talk to.

I need a landline because I'm on conference calls for hours every single day (I work from home), not something you want to do much on a cell phone.

Dropped the land line 2 years ago. Don't miss it and love the savings in my pocket.

2 cells and a VOIP landline at our house. We'd ditch the landline, but we get absolutely no cell reception at our place.

We have a land-line.

I always HATED cell phones, never wanted to get one....but....I had to work on the road for 2 years. It became needed.

Peggy has one....uses it for emergency only.
I have one...the one I got for my time on the road, so Peggy could get hold of me. Of course, it has become impossible to get rid of...
I also have one for work calls only.

So:

1 land line
3 cells

Landline & cell.

Cell reception is sketchy in my home as I live in a "low spot".
I also have a fiber internet/phone/cable package that makes the cost of the landline minimal.
Some people never find it, some only pretend
But me, I just want to live happily ever after every now and then.

I have that, too. I also live in a cell-phone "dead zone". Tough to get reception.

Landline only. We had 2 cells a few years ago but got rid of them. We were rarely using them, the bill went from 55 to 70 a month for them, and we were hardly ever able to use them from home. We live in a valley and no cell tower nearby. Getting rid of them was a no brainer when I came home one day and saw my wife hanging out a second floor window trying to get reception to talk to her mother

We have a landline and our cell phones. We work for the phone company. :D :D We use our landline a lot actually but have it mostly for our DSL service (although now you can get DSL w/out phone service from most local phone companies).

five different cell phones here in our house. I only keep the landline because I need to fax every day for business. For the landline I have VOIP though. I just finished a statistical course on political opinion and yes, the heavy use of cell phones only among the young in particular is skewing all poll results.

Since I have cable internet and a cell phone, there was no need for me to keep a landline.

My parents still have theirs, though, because they have (terrible) DSL service, and my sister can't seem to figure out how to talk on her cell without running up thousand dollar bills (despite free nights and weekends), so she is no longer allowed to talk on her cell phone with friends.

If my parents were smart, they, too, would've gotten cable internet, but they had this absolutely dumb idea that they would get satellite TV with 8,000 channels that arent worth watching and can't be deleted from the channel guide, no sensible order, and a limited number of TVs in the house (Oh, you're home for the summer? Sorry, we took you're big screen and put it in our room because you don't get a satellite box anyways. Hate it for you.)
