From Travel Weekly:
Harrah's, Jimmy Buffett to develop casino resort in Biloxi (05/15/2007)

Harrah's Entertainment has teamed with singer Jimmy Buffett to develop a $700 million gaming project in Biloxi, Miss.

With a name inspired by one of Buffett's hit songs, the Margaritaville Casino & Resort will be developed on 46 acres of land south of U.S. Highway 90 here at the site of the Grand Casino and Casino Magic.

Construction is slated to begin this summer, with an opening projected for spring 2010.

"I have always considered myself a 'Gulf Coast kid,' " said Buffett. "I was born there, grew up there and jumped on a stage for the first time there, before hitting the road. I have seen the world, traveled to distant shores, written a few songs and lived a few tall tales along the way, and now it is good to be coming back home."

Plans for the property include a 420-room hotel; a 100,000-square-foot casino floor; 250,000 square feet of retail space; and 66,000 square feet of meetings space.

"Along with Jimmy Buffett, we plan to develop the next generation destination resort on the Gulf Coast," said Gary Loveman, chairman, chief executive officer and president in a statement. "This project of more than $700 million dollars is vital to supporting the rebirth of Mississippi's tourism industry."

The Margaritaville resort will be one of the largest, post-Hurricane Katrina development projects in Biloxi.

Well for $6.50 I have All Natural Margaritaville popcorn. It's the "When they were making movies in old black and white" buttered flavor.
The Parrot Dice Lounge kinda like a mirage. Here today and gone tomorrow. You should stop by and say hello when visiting Chicago on tour.

Why is that any different for Jimmy Buffett? He is in a place at the end of his career where touring and living on the road may not have quite the same appeal as it once did. So he in diversifying his portfolio. So what?

He is still touring some... still making records... still entertaining us.... what is the big deal?

I know my husband spent lots of time on the road in his sales job over the past 20 yrs.... and now he doesnt have to... he has planted the seeds... and while he still must work hard some of the time(Playing Golf), he works way less than he did and make s4x the money as he did 20 yrs ago.

Other than the amount of zeros....Someone please explain the difference in what we all do and what Mr Buffett is doing....

How does making money in other businesses make him less desirable as a musician? I've never understood that arguement. He should be playing on street corners with an open guitar case so his "art" is more "pure"???

Nope. He can do what he wants with his time and money. I liked it better when he didn't have so many other distractions from songwriting - when's the last time he wrote the majority of stuff on his own albums, for instance? - recording, and performing.

I certainly don't bedrudge him his right to do whatever he wants. I was just expressing my opinion.

Gotcha, I wasn't really directing the question to you, I've seen the same thing other times when this kind of stuff comes up. Just curious

But for the chance to go down to the Gulf for a week, see Jimmy perform a few times (ideally mixing up the set list and band every night), maybe a little golf in the afternoons...I'd book that vacation!
So does this mean that Jimmy is taking a page from Celine Dion's book?.....Only on major steriods..($700M)
Will we be abel to see jimmy weekly?, Monthly?

I agree that the big draw is Jimmy. Oh sure, if you are in the area you will stop in, perhaps even stay there. You may even decide to give it a go if you plan to vacation the area, BUT the big draw is still to see Jimmy. If you don't believe me...just go to Vegas this year (Or any other venue for that matter).....
