I agree that the big draw is Jimmy. Oh sure, if you are in the area you will stop in, perhaps even stay there. You may even decide to give it a go if you plan to vacation the area, BUT the big draw is still to see Jimmy. If you don't believe me...just go to Vegas this year (Or any other venue for that matter).....

Why is that any different for Jimmy Buffett? He is in a place at the end of his career where touring and living on the road may not have quite the same appeal as it once did. So he in diversifying his portfolio. So what?

He is still touring some... still making records... still entertaining us.... what is the big deal?

I know my husband spent lots of time on the road in his sales job over the past 20 yrs.... and now he doesnt have to... he has planted the seeds... and while he still must work hard some of the time(Playing Golf), he works way less than he did and make s4x the money as he did 20 yrs ago.

Other than the amount of zeros....Someone please explain the difference in what we all do and what Mr Buffett is doing....

Feelings about Jimmy's commercialism aside, this is a very good way to help rebuild his "homeland" from the devastation Katrina and Rita. Will help many dollars find it's way back into the economy.

I can tell you in a million years I'd never go to Biloxi, MS for a vacation or any other reason--until now. I probably would have gone to New Orleans pre-Katrina, but probably wouldn't now.

Jimmy knows his name is a huge draw and he's drawing people to a place where "we" wouldn't necessarily otherwise go and at the same time helping a place he holds near and dear to his heart.

I wonder if he will have a parking lot onsite for tailgating? :D :D :D :D The convention hall sounds like it will be a great place for a concert- that or on the beach

Actually I should revise that. After further thinking, one of the things I've wanted to do is take a Mississippi steam boat from Minnesota as far south as I could go. I lived in MN for a year and it was always so fun to see the steamboats dock for an afternoon and I always thought if I went back to MN, that's why I'd want to go. :D

But for the chance to go down to the Gulf for a week, see Jimmy perform a few times (ideally mixing up the set list and band every night), maybe a little golf in the afternoons...I'd book that vacation!

I'm not sure anything is wrong with Biloxi, I just never would have thought to go there on purpose.

I've been there many times, only day trips while vacationing in NOLA, it was fun enough with beautiful scenery of the Gulf. Fun restaurants and bars in and out of the casinos but this was pre Katrina haven't been down there since.

I really can't believe people are still offended by the "commercialization" aspect of this announcement. The only, only thing that gave me pause about the pending news was the environmental impact ... such a huge operation ON that gorgeous beach. I guess at some point, however, you have to realize the unemployed people still living in temporary housing take priority over a dispeptic fish or two.

Personally, knowing Jimmy is a savvy businessman as well as a great artist only makes him more appealing. Even when we were the ONLY people listening to and buying his music, he was still doing okay. I remember 10-12 years ago TRYING to get Harry Wayne Casey - KC of KC and the Sunshine Band - checked into a hotel room as he handed me credit card after credit card, looking for one that wouldn't decline. The band had just been on network TV 6 weeks earlier as part of some disco revival tour ... Anyway, it was sad.

Was it Tom Corcoran who said that even in the '70's, while promoting a partying lifestyle, Jimmy would actually take time on the road to gather receipts and sit in the hotel room adding them up?

I think they are building it where Grand Casino once was. Grand Casino has moved since the storm. So I don't think it is actually on the beach.
