I have not posted in quite sometime, but this came from the Baton Rouge Buisness report, get ready to get the hot lines humming.

"Lookin' for my lost pile of chips: Harrah's Entertainment and singer Jimmy Buffett are teaming up to build the Margaritaville Casino & Resort in Biloxi, Miss. The $704 million project is the biggest investment in the Mississippi Gulf Coast casino market since Hurricane Katrina. The resort, which will be built on the site of Grand Casino Biloxi and Casino Magic Biloxi, is set to open in summer 2010."

What a truly amazing endeavor for Jimmy Buffett. "Margaritaville" has become such a marketing frenzy from restaurants, to shoes, clothing, his own radio station, it seems whatever Jimmy Buffett puts his mind (and money) to seems to work.
I would absolutely make a trip to Margaritaville Casino.
Congrats and good luck Mr. Buffett on your new adventure.
PS does this remind anyone of "the Trump organization" Oh.. maybe we could have a Buffett Apprentice. I would apply for that job!! I guess who here wouldn't?!

I just jumped in to post this . . . I invest in Penn Gaming and saw this blurb too. I freaked . . . Jimmy has a prime opportunity to make a vacation destination!
"Harrah's said Tuesday it will open a $704 million Margaritaville Casino & Resort in Biloxi, Miss., with songwriter Jimmy Buffett, which it said would be the largest development in Mississippi since Hurricane Katrina hit the Gulf Coast in 2005"

I'll pass on this one. I'm sure many a fool will be parted with their money, though...and happily at that.

People vacation in Vegas without gambling . . . I don't know how they do it but by golly they do.

At least if he is involved in this and it does not open for a while. we can think he will be touring till it is open.
also
We all want a way to perpetuate being able to see Jimmy. well this could be it. Possibly after he decides to quit touring they could have a permanant Imax type theatre with Concert videos from every concert venue playing regularly.

What a great opportunity! It's been rumored for some time that Jimmy was interested in opening a casino in Vegas. But this is so much better - putting his money where his heart is - in the Gulf Coast.
For all his assistance in the re-building of the area, this is sure a pick-me-up. Thanks JB!

If you want an add from the local paper here ya go.

Really cool considering this will be 15 mins from my house. =)
There is also suppose to be a margaritaville restraunt inside(I'm sure you all assumed that), and a small craft harbor down towards gulfport thats 32 million dollars with all kinds of stuff. His name was mentioned on the news along with that... whether he has any actual affiliation I'm not sure.
Welcome Home JB

Where? Surprisingly, I didn't see an arena listed among the attractions in the new casino.....

Yep. If he was determined to build one, I'm sure glad he picked Biloxi over Vegas...

Well, he's done it. He's finally gone and sold out completely for the almighty dollar.
What's next? Christmas Island Crack for the holidays? Fruitcoke for Fridays? Beach House on the Brothel? All would sell, so why not?
It would be nice, as Parrotthead, to see him put his money behind a few socially conscience businesses from time to time. Yes, I know about his extensive charity work, and I'd still like to see him invest in businesses that make life better for people. It seems like he's only interested in investing in things that affect (afflict?) the poor--booze, beer, gambling. Granted, there's money to be made in these businesses, but shouldn't someone as politically active as He is practice what he preaches?
OK, let the beatings begin…

I think that helping to rebuild a devastated region and provide jobs for many people is a socially conscience business move.

So why not invest in a charter school? Or an eco-friendly golf course? Or an E-85 gas station? Or …
Why does it have to be something that, historically, makes money off of people who can least afford to lose money? Does a business designed to keep the poor inpoverished by providing minimum wage jobs with no real opportunities for advancement really help rebuild a devastated region? Or is it simply opportunistic? Or does it simply make money for people who already have money while keeping the poor impoverished?
I'm not saying there are easy answers for this area, but this "answer" is simply complicated. Much more so than the earlier posts on this topic would have one believe.

Just an idea . . . Timeshare!? Vacation Ownership? I mean if we are going to argue the moral and social conscious of this decision. Allow people to purchase ownership in unique Margaritaville themed properties. Vacations relieve stress and hereby prevent road rage which in turn decreases senseless violence . . . . Jimmy Buffett is taking a stand against senseless violence by opening a casino/resort with vacation ownership. Combine that with the rebuilding effort and jobs he is adding to the community and I think we're close to talking Nobel Peace Prize but we need to see how he fairs in France first.
All he has done is licensing in one of the most unique ways imaginable. This is a Harrah's thing and they likely approached him about his "brand". Congrats Jimmy! Good job Harrah's for seeing the potential. If they can capture the MArgaritaville feel and vibe they have a hell of a cash cow bathing in the gulf.
I'll give you even more of my money!

Why do people think they have a right to tell Jimmy how to invest his money?

I've typed 3 different responses all rivaling the length of War and Peace. I think this is great. To think this is not going to help that region is terribly naive. I live in a casino town in Illinois. It has boosted alot of things in this area. The commerce growth is amazing in itself. Part of the tax dollars generated go to schools and city utility bills. Thats right it pays bills for the poor. The people out in that area that want help will get it.
