Grand Turks Margaritaville

Post by DOKKEN88 »

Build it and they will come. Was there last wed.. it has nice pool, very pricey drinks. It seems Jimmy got on the Grand Turk wagon just at the right time. There is not a lot else there.
It is just about as touristy as it gets.. where fat middle america emabarks from a ship, listens to some booty music(very little Buffett actually) and dreams about those "3 day vacations". Definately not my style but pool is sure nice.
I kept thinking about how Jimmy says dont wanna swim in a roped of ocean and thats exactly what it is.. oh well better than a good day at work any time..

If I remember correctly, they served Lone Palm as well as Jimmy's Jamaican brew, "Latitude." I kept a bottle from there, and it reads "Brewed for Margaritaville," "Product of Jamaica," and "Brewed and Bottled in Jamaica by: Big City Brewing Company."

I was there the last week of December last year (before LandShark was officially named) and I thought that maybe this would be Jimmy's new beer in the US. There were rumors of the new beer at that time, but it hadn't been called 'LandShark' yet. I think Latitude is available at the other Carribbean M'Ville locations.

Latitude looks has a Corona/LandShark appearance (light in color) and the taste was similar. Definitely another "beach beer."

I thought the Grand Turk M'Ville Cafe was very cool. All of the seating is covered, but completely outdoors. We didn't eat there, but did hang out by the HUGE pool for most of the day. There is a swim-up bar, along with an inside one and a few tiki bars on the pool deck. It is right on the ocean, but true it's a "roped off sea." I would suggest getting off your cruise ship as early as possible to try to get prime pool-side seats.

And yes, the "booty music" DJ played too much non-Buffett stuff for my taste. In fact, I went to request a Buffett tune and he only had the "Meet Me in Margaritaville" discs to choose from... It was sad.

Maybe someone could shed some light on this...

I'm not sure what is going on in the islands. There were very few islanders on Anguilla who knew about Jimmy Buffett. Almost everyone that I talked to did not even know the SYKBH songs.

When I returned to the states, I sent many of them Take the Weather with You and Meet Me in Margaritaville to thank them for their hospitality.
They were THRILLED.

A friend of mine had to give his copy of Meet Me in Margaritaville to the bartender at the Anguilla Great House so we could all listen to it in the bar.

Why do the islanders seem to know so little about someone who promotes their lifestyle so much? :pirate:

I was there in March and they ran out of Latitude. Dang drunk kids must have drank it all.

Margaritavilles

Post by Gardner McKay, Jr. »

Just arrived back from Grand Cayman and Ocho Rios. Ocho Rios M-ville was from hunger, no Buffett tunes, not even Marley or reggae either. Mostly American ''Rap'' and goofey little sexy bits with the young girls that were in attendance.Food was mediocre. Grand Cayman was a bit better, however, no tunes by ''Bubba" but the food (Calamari & Conch Soup) was excellent. The ambiance was better than Ocho Rios as well. My family and I are spoiled though, having visited M-ville Key West 2 or 3 times a year, for many , many, years. My youngest daughter just graduated from University of Central Florida, therefore we ''hit'' M-ville Orlando many times in the past 4 years, Orlando is great, with the videos, volcano, Hemisphere Dancer, and now Radio M-ville. The food's not bad either. The ''kicker'' is though, all M-villes are corporate except one, Key West. From the friends we've made at our many visits we've been told KW is still owned by Sunshine Smith & Jimmy. The food is the best and it's Ole' Gardner's favorite, for whatever that's worth. As Always, G.M., Jr.

I have a very good friend who is the director of the cruise ship dock in Grand Turk. The Margaritaville there is on the docks property and is only open when a cruise ship is at the dock. It caters strictly to "those lovely cruise ship couples....you know....those condo commandos." They're the ones that know all the SYKBH...not necessarily the local islanders. On days when there's no boat the place looks like a ghost town. And I could be wrong, but I've heard that the carribean M'ville's are franchised....unlike the U.S. mainland versions that have JB's very hands on involvement.

Now I've got a terminal daydream,
That's something you'll never know
I keep it right here in my backpack, mon
And I take it wherever I go.
