There is a place (I think) called Duke of York. It's not that far from Victoria Station, about a block (right near) the bus terminal.
If you want an experience, go to a Jimmy Buffett concert.

Experience is something you don't get until just after you need it.

Life is short, live long!!

Where are you going to be staying? London is sort of a big place... :D

I did some work in the financial district and there seemed to be a pub on every 3rd corner. I personally think almost every pub in London is cool because they have different types of beer than in the states, most of it's really good and you are in London.

If you do happen to be in the financial district, the Leadenhall Market is a neat place to grab a pint. During the day, you can see all the traders out drinking during lunch (and probably in the afternoon as well). I think they may have filmed some of the Harry Potter scenes there too.

Haven't been in a long time, but here are some I remember: Ye Olde Cheshire Cheese, Ye Olde Bell Tavern (both on Fleet St. I think), the Sherlock Holmes (near Victoria Gardens), the Queens Arms, Blackfriar's Tavern (under/near Blackfriar's Bridge)...there was also a bar in Wapping that has the gallows out back...people used to drink & watch the hangings! When we were there, it was closed, but it was quietly eerie watching that noose swing in the breeze over the Thames. Can't remember the name though!

I've been staying out of that thread, because of the biters. I bet you could stir up some real good fish over there....

London Pubs

Post by elderflowerapplejuice »

I would definately go to Ye Old Chesire Cheese in the City of London, great old pub where Sir Arthur Conan Doyle would consume adult beverages as well as Samuel Johnson, any man other notables.
Check out Trader Vics for tropical drinks by Hyde Park. The george is Londons oldest pub.

You can check out pubs.com to help with suggestions. There are so many old charming pubs in London.

Captain Kidd's Pub on Wapping street is great too, the hanging spot of captain Kidd is there, arrrrrrrr..

Don't forget the Ten Bells. This is the pub where Jack the Ripper met some of his victims. The Jack the Ripper walk was alot of fun. I went a few years ago and I think we stopped at two or three pubs. The Ten Bells was the last.

They used to until the petrol prices got way to high.

If you get the chance, you must go out to Hampton Court Palace. There are some great old pubs close by. Some do say, that Henry VIII used to drink in them!

Also try to get to Windsor, a wonderful town, may good pubs here.

Stay away from the 'themed' pubs the really are crap!

Always look for a 'Free House' This means it is not run & owned by one brewery, but are allowed to buy many beers from different brewers.

If you do go to the East end of London, be careful, not such a safe place. My husband is a retired London cop, and will not go there.

Have a great time!

We did the Jack the Ripper tour with a great tour guide who wrote a book on the subject, and ended with pints at the Ten Bells! There's a big list on the wall of all the Ripper's victims.....
